Sporting a medium to deep garnet-purple color, the 2019 D'Angludet sails out of the glass with expressive, open-knit scents of kirsch, black raspberries, red roses and crushed redcurrants with suggestions of dried mint and charcoal. The medium-bodied palate is soft and juicy with a lovely floral perfume supporting the red berry preserves flavors, finishing savory.

The 2019 D'Angludet has turned out nicely in bottle, delivering aromas of earthy red and black fruits, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless palate with a sweet core of fruit, ripe tannins and lively acids. This elegantly fleshy wine is reminiscent of a modern-day version of the 1989.

The 2019 Angludet has not come together well with élevage. It remains burly, angular and not especially interesting.

The 2019 Angludet is dark, jammy and four-square. It will be interesting to see if there is more here than this barrel sample suggests.

The 2019 d'Angludet has a fine bouquet, well-defined with tobacco and pencil box aromas infusing the black fruit, taut and displaying beautifully integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, composed and harmonious, maybe missing a little grip, but it sashays along with style. Delicious Margaux. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

The 2019 d’Angludet is the first vintage with partial aging in clay amphora (30%); around 35% of the barrels were new. I must confess that I like the aromatics here: macerated red cherries, crushed strawberry and raspberry fruit, a little earthiness and a hint of leather. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, and clean, fresh fruit that merges into more tertiary, slightly peppery notes toward the finish. Fine.

The 2019 Angludet offers ripe black cherries and candied orange peel on the nose before more classic earthier scents join the fray. The aromatics are quite boisterous. The palate is sweet and fleshy, almost corpulent on the entry with a veneer of ripe kirsch and crushed strawberry. Modest depth, focused with a pleasant pure finish, this will be one of Margaux's more approachable wines and should give 15-20 years of drinking pleasure.

The 2019 d’Angludet has a lovely, lilting bouquet of black cherries, raspberry, rose petal and light violet aromas. This is just very very… Margaux! The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, and very fleshy, to the point where I think a little more grip on the finish would not have gone amiss. Yet it is nicely focused, fresh and tensile, offering just the right amount of sapidity. This will be one of the more approachable 2019s. Promising.

A dense, layered red with chocolate, hazelnut and redcurrants. It’s medium-to full-bodied. Chewy tannins at the end.

Ripe, fruity character here, with aromas of cassis, blackberries, licorice, dark chocolate and walnuts. Medium-bodied with a polished, creamy texture, firm tannins and a chocolatey mouth-feel. Deep core of fruit and a meaty structure. Succulent and refined. Try after 2024 and onwards.

About the Producer

Château Angludet is a wine estate located in the Bordeaux region, specifically in the Margaux appellation in the Médoc, on the left bank of the Gironde River. The estate is managed by Benjamin Sichel, who passionately adopts biodynamic practices to craft exceptional red wines. Benefiting from the protective effect of the Gironde Estuary, the vineyard of Angludet has a rich viticultural heritage that spans over 300 years. The vineyard expresses the terroir to its fullest, characterized by sandy gravel soils that are particularly well-suited for grape cultivation. It is one of the oldest properties in the Médoc. Starting from 2017, Benjamin Sichel decided to incorporate three different species of fruit trees. A succession of apple trees, peach trees, and plum trees now accompany the vineyard work. Today, there are over 200 trees that have become an integral part of the viticultural landscape of Angludet.
