The dark ruby 2001 d'Angludet exhibits sweet, earthy black currants and plums presented in a relatively concentrated, cleanly made style with no hard edges. It will be delicious early and last for at least 10-12 years.

First tasted February 2003: very early to taste now of course but seems a Merlot dominated wine. Pure ripe black cherry palate. Seems to lack the structure and tannins. Fleshy. Early drinking. Similar in February 2004: a thin woody nose, a bit disjointed and green. The palate is quite spicy but the wine seems hollow with high acidity. Drink now.

A sleeper of the vintage, this excellent offering possesses a deep ruby/purple color as well as a sweet nose of melted asphalt, cedar wood, black currants, gravel, and tar. There is plenty of well-integrated tannin along with surprising size, richness, and aging potential (particularly for a Cru Bourgeois). Anticipated maturity: 2006-2015.

About the Producer

Château Angludet is a wine estate located in the Bordeaux region, specifically in the Margaux appellation in the Médoc, on the left bank of the Gironde River. The estate is managed by Benjamin Sichel, who passionately adopts biodynamic practices to craft exceptional red wines. Benefiting from the protective effect of the Gironde Estuary, the vineyard of Angludet has a rich viticultural heritage that spans over 300 years. The vineyard expresses the terroir to its fullest, characterized by sandy gravel soils that are particularly well-suited for grape cultivation. It is one of the oldest properties in the Médoc. Starting from 2017, Benjamin Sichel decided to incorporate three different species of fruit trees. A succession of apple trees, peach trees, and plum trees now accompany the vineyard work. Today, there are over 200 trees that have become an integral part of the viticultural landscape of Angludet.
