Tasting notes

This d’Angludet has a slightly feral nose with black fruits, tobacco and some sweaty saddle. It should have more fruit intensity at this stage. The palate is fairly tannic but lacks the proportionate fruit concentration. Blackberry, black plum with a touch of tar towards the abrasive finish that lacks both harmony and finesse. Average. Drink now-2015. Tasted November 2006.

I was only able to taste this wine on one occasion, but it appears to be a sleeper of the vintage. A very strong effort for d’Angludet, this 2002 could merit 90 points if what I tasted turns up in the bottle. It possesses a saturated purple color in addition to a big, sweet perfume of licorice, plums, and cassis. Surprisingly powerful, with sweet tannin as well as good concentration and length, give it 2-3 years of cellaring, and drink it over the following 12-15 years.

Tasted on four occasions, the last in May-05. Very little on the nose: dried leaves and tobacco. Again, a 2002 that lacks fruit intensity on the nose. The palate is quite thick and chewy with pronounced vanillary black fruits. Quite tannic on the finish. This is quite a backward wine for the vintage, but I worry about the level of fruit compared to the tannins - will it dry up? Tasted May 2005.

This is an unqualified sleeper of the vintage, a beautifully opulent, rich, dense, ruby/purple-colored wine with sweet cassis fruit intermixed with some licorice and resiny notes. Quite full-bodied, pure, with good, sweet fruit covering moderate levels of tannin, this is a beauty and an undeniable bargain for a wine of this quality. In fact, I’m not sure that it’s not even better than my rating. Anticipated maturity: now-2015.

About the Producer

Château Angludet is a wine estate located in the Bordeaux region, specifically in the Margaux appellation in the Médoc, on the left bank of the Gironde River. The estate is managed by Benjamin Sichel, who passionately adopts biodynamic practices to craft exceptional red wines. Benefiting from the protective effect of the Gironde Estuary, the vineyard of Angludet has a rich viticultural heritage that spans over 300 years. The vineyard expresses the terroir to its fullest, characterized by sandy gravel soils that are particularly well-suited for grape cultivation. It is one of the oldest properties in the Médoc. Starting from 2017, Benjamin Sichel decided to incorporate three different species of fruit trees. A succession of apple trees, peach trees, and plum trees now accompany the vineyard work. Today, there are over 200 trees that have become an integral part of the viticultural landscape of Angludet.
