This property has made some brilliant wines in recent vintages, including a monumental 2005 and super-delicious 2004. Another stunning offering, the 2006 possesses sweet cherry and cassis notes intermixed with spring flowers, underbrush, and licorice. Medium-bodied and beautifully concentrated with soft acids as well as sweet tannin, the overall impression is one of opulence and plushness, atypical characteristics for a 2006. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2025.

Tasted blind at Southwold ’06 Bordeaux tasting. This has a forceful, fruit-driven bouquet with plum and cassis to the fore, a bouquet that has turned volte-face since its austere showing in barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins, good weight here, vibrant acidity and cohesion. Peppery black fruits, a little austerity on the finish but good length. This surpasses my expectations. Tasted January 2010.

Tasted at the UGC. A very austere, conservative nose that lacks some fruit concentration, with dominant notes of green pepper and decaying leaves. The palate is better, perhaps a little blowsy with notes of blackberry, blueberry and cedar with coarse, rather astringent tannins. Dry finish. I expected a little more to be truthful. While it is easy to lose sight of this wine, given the prodigious 2005 that was produced, this is another outstanding effort from an estate that has been doing everything right for some time. Notes of graphite, black currant liqueur, incense, and camphor make for a complex and intensely penetrating set of aromatics. Dark ruby/purple, medium to full-bodied, with superb concentration and moderate tannin, this is a beauty of finesse and substance that should be at its best between 2012 and 2024.

Full red-ruby. Musky aromas of currant, graphite, tobacco leaf, menthol, herbs and smoke are sexed up by a captivating candied quality. Densely packed and chewy but suave, with good peppery, herbal lift to the very ripe dark berry and mineral flavors. Not the ripest vintage ever for this wine, but that's not a bad thing as there's real energy to go with the broad texture.

Good red-ruby. Bright, sexy aromas of sweet cherry, licorice, minerals and smoky oak. Juicy, sweet and energetic, with subtle, tightly wound flavors of raspberry, mulberry and minerals. This has the nerve that the 2007 does not yet show. Wonderfully vibrant wine with a firm tannic spine and excellent length.

Red-ruby. High-pitched aromas of blackberry, violet and dark chocolate. Juicy, bright and quite tight, with an inky quality and good clarity to the intense dark berry flavors. Lively and persistent, finishing with smooth, harmonious tannins and excellent lift and length. This was a standout in the Union des Grands Crus Margaux tasting. My subsequent sample at the estate began a bit more chunky, with a ripe, chocolatey character and slightly rough tannins, but showed a candied blackberry element and more intense fruit with aeration, turning much more expressive and gaining in freshness.

Tasted at the property as part of a vertical tasting, the 2006 Château Malescot St Exupery is a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 4% each of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, picked between 25 September and 12 October. It has a detailed, quite mineral-driven bouquet with blood orange scents infusing the red berry fruit, the oak neatly integrated. The palate is well balanced with edgy red berry fruit on the entry, a stoniness underneath, a Margaux of the earth not the air. Correct and linear, with good depth and ample freshness, it actually reminds me of Brane Cantenac in style and the salinity on the finish is just wonderful. Returning after 30 minutes, you notice the acidity coming through more and more, though it is in sync with the fruit. This is a delightful Margaux to enjoy over the next 10-15 years. About the Producer
Chateau Malescot St-Exupery is located in the Margaux appellation on the left bank of Bordeaux in France. The third growths include Chateau Palmer and Chateau Giscours. The history of Chateau Malescot dates back to the 17th century, and its name comes from the surnames of two old estate owners: Mr. Simon Malescot, who bought the estate in 1697, and he was the King's adviser attached to the Bordeaux Parliament, while the other was Count Jean-Boptiste Saint-Exupery, who managed the estate from 1827 to 1853. The former named the winery after its own name and carefully managed it for a century, expanding its area and maintaining its integrity and unity, while the latter renamed it Marigo Saint-Eye Chateau Malescot Saint-Exupery, referred to as Chateau Malescot, has been renovated. The fate of Chateau Marigo was a bumpy one, changing owners frequently and experiencing disasters such as phylloxera, mold pests, economic crisis and war damage. Although the winery was more carefully managed and new equipment was introduced after the rating, it still failed to escape the impact of the economic crisis in the early 20th century, and experienced many changes of owners after 1900. In 1955, when Paul Zuger took over the winery, he gradually rebuilt the winery with his love for the Bordeaux winemaking industry, producing characteristic wines that meet the standards of the Grand Crus. At the same time, he also acquired the Chateau Marquis d'Alesme Becker. Today, the new owner of the winery is Jean-Luc Zuger (Jean-Luc Zuger), under his management, the quality of the winery is unanimously recognized. Chateau Margaux's vineyards are located in two gravel-dominated areas in the Margaux region, consisting of five scattered parcels, two of which are directly north and west of Chateau Margaux , with a total area of 28 hectares. The surrounding surface is dominated by a 2-10 m thick gravel layer, extending along a gentle slope to the mouth of the Gironde, while the underlying soil is marl and marl formed in the Tertiary period. clay. Parts are iron layers, or "sandstone layers". The average age of the vines in the park is 35 years, and some old vines are over 50 years old. Currently, the proportion of grape varieties is mainly Cabernet Sauvignon (Cabernet Sauvignon) about 50%, Merlot (Merlot) 35%, Cabernet Franc (Carbernet Franc) 10% and Petit Verdot (Petit Verdot) 5%. The winery hired the famous "flying winemaker" Michel Rolland as a winemaking consultant. The wines of Chateau Marigo are fermented in temperature-controlled vats without the addition of additional yeast and other additives. Then when it is aged, its original wine will be aged for 14-16 months in new oak barrels, and the second wine will be aged for the same time, but its proportion of new oak barrels is only about 50%. Intense red berries and earthiness, Marigot is known for its enticing aromas of raspberry and violet, silky texture, full-bodied balance, refined elegance, round and concentrated tannins, expressiveness, spice and balsamic vinegar The chestnut flavor is accompanied by a balanced and pleasant acidity. Some of the better years, such as 2000, have received a high score of 92 by Robert Parker.
