The 2017 Malescot St. Exupery is a blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon and 42% Merlot aged in French oak, 70% new. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it is redolent of warm red and black currants, kirsch and raspberry pie on the nose with floral wafts, tobacco and wild sage in the background plus a hint of pencil shavings. Medium-bodied, it is packed with expressive red and black fruits and is velvety and refreshing, finishing long.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Malescot St. Exupery is scented of crushed red and black cherries, warm plums and mulberries with touches of roses and wood smoke. The palate is medium-bodied with plenty of vibrant red and black fruits and soft, plush tannins, with a long, perfumed finish.

The 2017 Malescot Saint Exupéry has really come together nicely over the course of its élevage. In this vintage, Malescot is a bit more fruity and less structured than it has been. Cedar, licorice, dried herbs, menthol and scorched earth notes give the 2017 a distinctly savory feel to match its somber, virile personality. The 2017 is a wine that keeps getting better each time I taste it, and that makes me very hopeful for the future; it will be interesting to see what happens here with aging, and, specifically, if a bit more structure emerges. This is a wine of great personality and character.

Malescot Saint Exupéry comes across as very ripe in 2017. There is no shortage of depth or intensity, but ripeness is pushed to the edge, while the wine's structure – arguably its greatest signature – seems to be lacking. I don't see much typicity in the 2017. Malescot Saint Exupéry is often one of my personal favorites in Margaux, but the 2017 left me wanting more of its typical character and personality. Tasted two times.

The 2017 Malescot St. Exupéry was cropped at 38hl/ha and aged in 70% new oak for 13 to 15 months. This has a lovely plushness and purity on the nose with copious dark cherries, blueberry and violet aromas that blossom in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, a subtle marine influence here with a precise and persistent finish. This is one of the best Margaux wines in 2017 and comes highly recommended. You know, this might improve further with bottle age.

The 2017 Malescot St. Exupéry has a simpler bouquet than recent vintages with high-toned red cherry and raspberry fruit, quite “warm” compared to its peers and it would benefit from a little more delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. It is not a complex Malescot St. Exupéry but I admire the balance and focus. There is plenty of tightly wound red berry fruit laced with cedar and smoke, quite finessed towards the finish with a long spicy aftertaste. I would just like the aromatics to step up to the grade of the palate, so let’s see how this shows once in bottle.

A fantastic 2017 from Margaux with a deep and ripe core of fruit in the center palate. Silky and juicy tannins. Full body, plenty of fruit and a long, flavorful finish.

Aromas of blueberries and stone with some dried-flower notes. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, silky tannins and a medium finish. Linear and refined with a very fine line of tannins running through it. Better after 2023.
About the Producer
Chateau Malescot St-Exupery is located in the Margaux appellation on the left bank of Bordeaux in France. The third growths include Chateau Palmer and Chateau Giscours. The history of Chateau Malescot dates back to the 17th century, and its name comes from the surnames of two old estate owners: Mr. Simon Malescot, who bought the estate in 1697, and he was the King's adviser attached to the Bordeaux Parliament, while the other was Count Jean-Boptiste Saint-Exupery, who managed the estate from 1827 to 1853. The former named the winery after its own name and carefully managed it for a century, expanding its area and maintaining its integrity and unity, while the latter renamed it Marigo Saint-Eye Chateau Malescot Saint-Exupery, referred to as Chateau Malescot, has been renovated. The fate of Chateau Marigo was a bumpy one, changing owners frequently and experiencing disasters such as phylloxera, mold pests, economic crisis and war damage. Although the winery was more carefully managed and new equipment was introduced after the rating, it still failed to escape the impact of the economic crisis in the early 20th century, and experienced many changes of owners after 1900. In 1955, when Paul Zuger took over the winery, he gradually rebuilt the winery with his love for the Bordeaux winemaking industry, producing characteristic wines that meet the standards of the Grand Crus. At the same time, he also acquired the Chateau Marquis d'Alesme Becker. Today, the new owner of the winery is Jean-Luc Zuger (Jean-Luc Zuger), under his management, the quality of the winery is unanimously recognized. Chateau Margaux's vineyards are located in two gravel-dominated areas in the Margaux region, consisting of five scattered parcels, two of which are directly north and west of Chateau Margaux , with a total area of 28 hectares. The surrounding surface is dominated by a 2-10 m thick gravel layer, extending along a gentle slope to the mouth of the Gironde, while the underlying soil is marl and marl formed in the Tertiary period. clay. Parts are iron layers, or "sandstone layers". The average age of the vines in the park is 35 years, and some old vines are over 50 years old. Then when it is aged, its original wine will be aged for 14-16 months in new oak barrels, and the second wine will be aged for the same time, but its proportion of new oak barrels is only about 50%. Intense red berries and earthiness, Marigot is known for its enticing aromas of raspberry and violet, silky texture, full-bodied balance, refined elegance, round and concentrated tannins, expressiveness, spice and balsamic vinegar The chestnut flavor is accompanied by a balanced and pleasant acidity. Some of the better years, such as 2000, have received a high score of 92 by Robert Parker.
