Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux 2010 tasting. The Malescot St. Exupery 2010 has a vigorous bouquet with abundant black cherries, blackcurrant, cedar and sous-bois notes that soar from the glass. The oak is present but nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins, a fine line of acidity and a composed, fleshy finish that belies the structure underneath. This is a solid, enjoyable Margaux that should age well. Tasted January 2014.

This estate, which has been on a qualitative crescendo for over ten years, has made a prodigious 2010 that ranks alongside their 2009, 2005 and 2000. A gorgeous fragrance of spring flowers, cedarwood, black and red currants and hints of spice box and subtle oak is followed by a generously endowed, full-bodied, opulent wine with layers of concentration, a restrained yet exuberant personality, superb fruit purity and a long finish. There is plenty of tannin, no doubt elevated alcohol and wonderful freshness as well as delicacy. This beauty should drink well for 25 or more years.

The Malescot Saint-Exupery has a very well defined nose, very precise with good mineralite. Blackberry, cedar, graphite and limestone, great focus and aromatic “bravura”. The palate has a ripe, fleshy entry, quite noticeable new oak but there is sufficient fruit to support it. Seamless texture with dark cherries, blackcurrant, a touch of graphite and cedar towards the finish that is more “classic” in style than the entry. This has great potential and could turn out to be better than the 2009. Tasted April 2011.

Gorgeous, flowery, classic Margaux once again, the 2010 Malescot St.-Exupery continues to show virtually no toasty oak, given the impeccable balance and full-bodied, full-throttle style it possesses. Black raspberries, creme de cassis and spring floral notes intermixed with forest floor and a hint of charcoal are followed by an opulent, sexy, full-bodied wine whose tannins have become much sweeter, while the wine is less restrained yet still exuberant and impressive. This is a phenomenal example once again for this estate, harmonious in every sense of style, extraordinarily long, rich and ageworthy. Three to four years of bottle age will do wonders to make it more accessible, but this wine is set for 25-30 years of longevity.

Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Malescot St. Exupery wafts gracefully out of the glass with scents of potpourri, raspberry coulis and kirsch over a cassis and warm plums core with a touch of pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with juicy red and black fruits, sporting a firm, fine-grained texture and oodles of freshness. It has a good, long and remarkably pure finish.

(58% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 8% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot) Good, full ruby-purple. Flamboyant, pure aromas of cassis, violet, gunflint and vanilla on the enticing nose. Then sweet, plush and broad, stuffed with opulent ripe dark berry, candied violet and licorice flavors. The melting tannins on the impressively long finish give this wine an early accessibility, but it also has the structure and weight to age extremely well. An excellent Malescot Saint-Exupery, even if it tastes more like Pomerol than Margaux. Purists may like it less than I did.

Good deep ruby-red. High-pitched aromas of raspberry, cherry liqueur, flowers and cedary cigar box. A sweet, dense midweight with penetrating red cherry and floral flavors accented by sound acidity. Nothing thick or heavy about this wine but it possesses plenty of chewy depth. Boasts excellent early balance but has the firm, sweet tannins and finishing bite and length for at least a couple decades of positive evolution in bottle.

A wine with beautiful strawberry and chocolate with hints of pie crust. It's full-bodied with super integrated tannins and a long, long finish. Needs at least four to five years to really come together but so wonderful. Not the amazing 2009 but clearly outstanding.
About the Producer
Chateau Malescot St-Exupery is located in the Margaux appellation on the left bank of Bordeaux in France. The third growths include Chateau Palmer and Chateau Giscours. The history of Chateau Malescot dates back to the 17th century, and its name comes from the surnames of two old estate owners: Mr. Simon Malescot, who bought the estate in 1697, and he was the King's adviser attached to the Bordeaux Parliament, while the other was Count Jean-Boptiste Saint-Exupery, who managed the estate from 1827 to 1853. The former named the winery after its own name and carefully managed it for a century, expanding its area and maintaining its integrity and unity, while the latter renamed it Marigo Saint-Eye Chateau Malescot Saint-Exupery, referred to as Chateau Malescot, has been renovated. The fate of Chateau Marigo was a bumpy one, changing owners frequently and experiencing disasters such as phylloxera, mold pests, economic crisis and war damage. Although the winery was more carefully managed and new equipment was introduced after the rating, it still failed to escape the impact of the economic crisis in the early 20th century, and experienced many changes of owners after 1900. In 1955, when Paul Zuger took over the winery, he gradually rebuilt the winery with his love for the Bordeaux winemaking industry, producing characteristic wines that meet the standards of the Grand Crus. At the same time, he also acquired the Chateau Marquis d'Alesme Becker. Today, the new owner of the winery is Jean-Luc Zuger (Jean-Luc Zuger), under his management, the quality of the winery is unanimously recognized. Chateau Margaux's vineyards are located in two gravel-dominated areas in the Margaux region, consisting of five scattered parcels, two of which are directly north and west of Chateau Margaux , with a total area of 28 hectares. The surrounding surface is dominated by a 2-10 m thick gravel layer, extending along a gentle slope to the mouth of the Gironde, while the underlying soil is marl and marl formed in the Tertiary period. clay. Parts are iron layers, or "sandstone layers". The average age of the vines in the park is 35 years, and some old vines are over 50 years old. Intense red berries and earthiness, Marigot is known for its enticing aromas of raspberry and violet, silky texture, full-bodied balance, refined elegance, round and concentrated tannins, expressiveness, spice and balsamic vinegar The chestnut flavor is accompanied by a balanced and pleasant acidity. Some of the better years, such as 2000, have received a high score of 92 by Robert Parker.
