Tasting notes

The 2014 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru is matured entirely in new oak and includes 60% whole bunch fruit. It has an introspective nose at first, but it opens with just a few swirls of the glass, revealing very floral, very feminine dark cherry and black plum fruit, sous-bois and oyster shell scents. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, quite masculine and structured with modest depth, a little "serious" towards the finish with a saline aftertaste. Very fine, very classy.

Offering up aromas of red berries, plums, peonies, sweet soil tones and spices, the 2014 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru is medium to full-bodied, lively and penetrating, framed by fine, powdery tannins that assert themselves on the finish. While the 2014 was more flattering in barrel than the 2013, today, it's the 2013 that displays more plenitude and charm, while the 2014 remains firmer and more compact, in need of additional bottle age.

The 2014 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has an attractive, slightly meaty bouquet with touches of dried blood and black pepper. Brown spices become stronger in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannins, austere but balanced. It has a spicy, slightly tarry finish. Fine.

About the Producer

Cecile TREMBLAY descends from a long line of vignerons. The story begins in 1921, with the union of Cécile’s great-grandparents, Edouard Jayer, a cooper in Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Esther Fournier who inherited vineyards from her family. Together they established and developed their own Domaine. The domaine’s vineyards were then eventually passed down to their five children. Renée, the youngest daughter, kept her share of the vineyards under métayage. Later on, Renée’s only daughter, Marie-Annick, grew the family holdings with her husband while keeping all vineyards under métayage. Cécile Tremblay, who had studied enology and viticulture in Dijon, reclaimed the family heritage and took over the management of the vineyards in 2002. A year later, Cécile bottled her first wines, Domaine Cécile Tremblay was born!
