Description
Redigaffi has an intense color that arouses enthusiasm and satisfy the sight, it highlights great complexity characterized by the fruity attack in the mouth leaving then “room” to tobacco and liquorice notes. Good concentration given by the pre-harvesting activity, three passages and perfect maturation reached by our grapes. Outstanding complexity. Floral notes typical of our “Macchia Mediterranea” are intense and persistent. The elegance of tannins is enhanced by the great structure and balance. Considerable extraction and good acidity.

This scorching-hot vintage saw the growth cycle start 15 days early, and that time gap continued all the way through to the harvest. The Tua Rita 2011 Redigaffi is a mature and darkly concentrated Merlot with a strong smoky element. Dark fruit and pressed blackberry are followed by toasted spice, hot asphalt, dried sage and campfire ash. There is an aroma that reminds me of rain hitting a hot summer pavement. On the palate, this 2011 expression offers ample muscle power and fleshy concentration.

The 2011 Redigaffi (one of Italy’s iconic Merlots) is a little shy at first and needs a few extra minutes to warm in the glass. Once it does, it bursts open with sweet fruit, blackberry, dark leather and Oriental spice. The wine is beautifully balanced and enormously expressive. It hits the high notes and the low ones with tip-top precision. I loved the purity of the sweet tobacco and crushed white pepper you get on the seductively long finish. It’s a baby now, and needs more aging time. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2035. Stefano Frascolla and Tua Rita have almost single-handedly put Suvereto on Italy’s winemaking map. The estate's 2011 Redigaffi was just bottled, but it doesn't seem to be showing any reticence at all. Smoke, tar and incense all add a dimension of exoticism as this voluptuous, textured Merlot shows off its personality. Layers of fruit build to a creamy, resonant finish. There is a lot to look forward to here.

I love the aromas of violets with licorice and subtle brown sugar. This is a full-bodied merlot with fabulous tannins and a wonderful finish. It shows reserve and balance with a striking complexity of orange peel, light berries and chocolate. Pure magic. Goes on for minutes. One of the best Redigraffis ever. Better in 2016.

It shows reserve and balance, with striking complex flavours of orange peel, light berries and chocolate. Pure magic. Goes on for minutes. One of the best Redigaffis ever. Better in 2016.

This has aromas of blackberries, praline, bay leaves, bitter chocolate and black truffles. Chewy and firm tannins here, with a full body and a dark-fruited, compact palate. Muscular and dense. 100% merlot. Drink or hold.
About the Producer
In 1984 Rita and Virgilio realized their lifelong dream purchasing the property that became Tua Rita. The landscape and buildings on this property were a mere setting for living in contact with nature whilst farming their beloved land. Their overwhelming passion for wine actually changed their plans. The original two hectares of vineyards have been cultivated meticulously since the beginning, this rigorous and passionate care collocated Tua Rita among the most successful producers labeled as “vins de garage”. In less than a decade they had extended the property up to nine hectares, then twenty; nowadays the totality of the planted vines includes thirty hectares. Growth has been driven by Rita and Virgilio’s enduring enthusiasm and an ever-deepening awareness of the potential of this estate in the area, between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Colline Metallifere, known as Val di Cornia. On one hand the estate and the cellar had being steadily growing driven by Rita and Virgilio’s extreme commitment. On the other hand thanks to Stefano Frascolla, married to the owners’ daughter Simena, the winery’s brand awareness was expanding rapidly. Simena also got involved in the family-run business after Virgilio’s death in 2010. The estate’s name derives from the inversion of Rita Tua’s first and last name.
