A blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Semillon, just picked in the morning to keep the freshness of the fruit, about 2-3 barrels each morning. The nose is very attractive, takes time to get going in the glass, but develops some lovely, very subtle, tropical aromas with apricot and white peach. The palate is very well balanced with apple, a touch of white peach and passion fruit, all with an undertow of minerality and tension. Very good length, very sophisticated. Excellent. Tasted September 2008.

Tasted blind at the 2007 Bordeaux horizontal in Southwold. This has a fine, vivacious bouquet of almond, grapefruit; a touch of pear and some lovely crushed stone aromas coming through with time. The palate is well balanced with good acidity and weight. It has an appealing waxy texture with notes of citrus lemon, pear and walnut, though it clams up towards the finish. Give this time in bottle, as it is sure to repay you. Tasted January 2011.

Tasted at the UGC in London. This has a very subtle nose, light and quite floral with subtle notes of green lemon, corn flour, greengage, crushed stone and peach. Good definition and lift. The palate is fresh and vibrant, green lemon, Granny Smiths, very fresh and vibrant towards the orange-blossom finish, which could do with a little more tension. This is very backward relative to other 2007 Blanc but give it time. Drink 2013-2020+ Tasted November 2009.

Coming after Carbonnieux Blanc and Malartic-Lagraviere Blanc, this is far more restrained and neutral on the nose although it does have an engaging river stone quality to it. The palate is very harmonious, relatively introverted and focusing more on the tension and poise than outright Tropicana! Hints of orange-blossom and citrus lemon with faint touches of peach towards the finish. Very focused on the finish. Giving less now but this should be wonderful after bottling. Tasted April 2008.

The 2007 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc has long been an exemplary white Bordeaux. Now, as it approaches double figures, it continues to give immense pleasure. Initially, the bouquet is not dissimilar to the previous bottle in 2011 with grapefruit, wet gravel and fresh Granny Smith apples, developing an intriguing licorice note as it opens in the glass after 20-30 minutes. The palate is very well balanced and has developed a touch of viscosity in recent years. The acidity imparts tension and liveliness, lime and grapefruit towards the finish that appears to have opened up. What a pretty Domaine de Chevalier! I would start drinking bottles now, but it will easily last 20-25 years. Tasted June 2016.

Tasted at the chateau. This has a superb nose, fresh green apple, pear, grapefruit and a touch of apricot: very fine definition and vivacity. The palate is lively on the entry, again fresh and lively, still quite taut with very good acidity, touches of pear, kiwi fruit, red-apple rather than green, leading to a primal, very well defined finish. Superb. Tasted April 2010.

This has a superior mineral intensity than other dry white Bordeaux this year with very good definition. The palate has a ripe apply entry with pear, lime and gooseberry, very vibrant with great length. Its class really shows through. This is a great success considering the vintage. Tasted April 2009.
