Composed of 85% Sauvignon Blanc and 15% Semillon and exhibiting crisp crushed rock, fig, melon and honeysuckle notes, this beautiful but backward white is capable of lasting another 2-3 decades.

Tasted ex-chateau and single blind in Southwold. The Domaine de Chevalier Blanc 2008 has an attractive, almost Burgundy-like nose with fine delineation and freshness: touches of beeswax and pressed white flowers. I like the subtle nature of this wine. The palate is well balanced with a citrus, grassy entry, good tension and more intensity than the previous wines in the flight. There is an attractive lime zest note on the finish. Superb. Tasted January 2012.

Compared to 2006 and 2007, the 2008 dry white wines of Bordeaux are inferior, but that does not mean they are not very good. They do not possess the flesh, power, or richness of the 2006 and 2007, but they reveal precise, intensely aromatic personalities, lighter bodies, and more noticeable acidity. These remain among the world’s most underrated world-class dry white wines. I will provide full tasting notes once they are in bottle, but following are the dry whites I tasted along with their approximate scores.

Fascinating aromas of sliced apples, pears and minerals with hints of sandalwood. Full bodied, yet subtle with light vanilla and zabaglione character, with cooked apple and lemons. Tangy and fascinating. Needs three years to come together -- at least.

Very attractive aromas of grapefruit, sliced apple and lemon. Some lanolin. Full body, intense dried fruits and hints of vanilla bean. Crazy finish. This is a unique white that shows incredible depth and power. This was a very late harvest for DC and it paid off! Drink or hold.
