Tasting notes

This is a strong vintage for Bordeaux’s dry white wines, probably as good or better than 2005. Crisp acidity combined with outstanding concentration and the fact that most of the white grapes were harvested before the rains began in mid-September resulted in an impressive group of wines.

Tasted blind at Southwold ’06 Bordeaux tasting. This is more advanced on the nose than the others, honeydew melon, clear honey with a touch of smoke and walnut. The palate is ripe, generous with citrus lemon, green apple, dried mango and a touch of almond. Lacks a little definition on the finish, but appealing. Not certain how representative this bottle is, hence the question mark. Tasted January 2010.

Tasted at a negotiant. Much more reserved and stony on the nose compared to the other wines. Lime, a touch of oyster shell. Introverted. The palate has superb concentration and acidity with a crisp lime, white peach finish, Great length, Superb. Tasted April 2007.

An absolutely textbook great white Graves made from 85% Sauvignon Blanc and 15% Semillon and aged nine months on its lees, this is a prodigious effort displaying notes of white flowers, currants, honeyed citrus, fig, and crushed rocks. The wine is very pure, with full body and high acidity, in a backward, almost tannic style. Give this wine at least 8-10 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 30 years.

Tasted at the chateau. This has a wonderful vibrant nose with touches of peach, pear drop and apricot all with excellent definition. The palate has great acidity, complex with subtle tones of peach, apricot and passion fruit. Feminine, utterly charming. Tasted September 2008.
