Tasted blind at the 2007 Bordeaux horizontal in Southwold. Francois Mitjavile produced a lovely 2007 from a difficult vintage. Here it has a very pure Merlot driven nose with dark cherries, boysenberry, a touch of smoke and a touch of crushed violet. The palate has a thick creamy entry, very powerful for a 2007, a lot of well-integrated oak lending to a lactic, mocha-tinged finish. Not as Burgundian as it was out of barrel, but there is lovely focus and sense of harmony and it possesses that -gourmand- quality that Francois is looking for. Excellent. Tasted January 2011.

Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 2007 Bordeaux tasting. The 2007 Le Tertre-Rôteboeuf has an irresistible bouquet with plush red and black fruit, crème de cassis and vanilla pod, almost Burgundian in style and billowing with aeration in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and plush with dark plum, macerated red cherries and strawberry. But this is all about that velvety texture and the weight and concentration on the finish. Surely this is Tertre-Rôteboeuf? It is! Perhaps the most delicious wine of the vintage. Tasted March 2015.

Tasted at the chateau. A limpid garnet/ruby colour. A gorgeous, very pure nose of violets, blueberries, macerated red cherries and a touch of oyster shell. The palate is medium-bodied, extremely pure with extremely fine tannins, to the point where you would think this could be a Vosne-Romanee from Sylvain Cathiard. Very feminine and beautifully balanced with silky texture. Raspberry and blueberry, a touch of limestone. Very good length. This is an outstanding wine for the vintage. Drink 2012-2025+. Tasted September 2008.

(13.8% alcohol) Deep ruby-red. Ripe but subdued aromas of black raspberry, licorice, mocha and espresso. Dense, sappy and quite sweet for 2007, with a firm licorice edge and a saline nuance to the dark berry and spice flavors, giving the wine an uncompromising dryness. But this has the silky, velvety, Burgundian texture that long-time fans of this domain love. Finishes with fine-grained tannins and lingering notes of mocha, coffee and licorice.
About the Producer
Tertre Roteboeuf is located in the Saint-Emilion region of Bordeaux, France, and is one of the top local wineries. Chateau Rotbouf owns 5.7 hectares of vineyards, mainly located in the southeast of Saint-Émilion. The soil in the garden is mostly limestone and clay soil. 80% of the vineyard is planted with Merlot and 20% with Cabernet Franc. The average age of the vines is 40 years, with some Cabernet Franc vines approaching 50 years old. The way of cultivating vines in Rotpov Winery is different. The vines are mainly cultivated in a low cultivation method, which is conducive to the formation of a unique microclimate in the vineyard, making the temperature of the vineyard higher than that of other nearby vineyards. These are conducive to the ripening of grapes. Due to the fact that the vineyards are located in cooler climates, Rotpov often delays the picking of the grapes. The picked grapes are screened, pressed, and then fermented in traditional cement vats. The wine obtained from fermentation will undergo malolactic fermentation (Malolactic Fermentation) in wooden barrels. The winery will mature the wine in new French oak barrels for 18 to 24 months. Chateau Rotbouve has reached the standard of classified winery, but the winery insists not to join the classification system. Such a decision did not affect the status of Chateau Rotbouf in Saint-Émilion or even Bordeaux at all, and the price and market demand of the winery of the chateau have always been at the forefront.
