The 2019 Nénin has turned out very well. A burst of red berry fruit, blood orange, mint, sweet spice and floral accents gives Nénin its effusive, charming personality. Best of all, the 2019 will be easy to drink pretty much upon release. All the elements are impeccably balanced throughout.

The 2019 Nénin is plump, juicy and very easy to like. Sweet red cherry, red plum, spice and sweet cedar are all laced together in this very pretty, nuanced Pomerol. Silky tannins add to its considerable immediacy, with bright floral notes that punctuate the finish with an extra kick of freshness. The 2019 is attractive, even if it feels a bit light.

The 2019 Nenin is the first vintage with a wax seal in the bottle, so you have been warned! Apparently the wax is one that does not crumble everywhere. This Pomerol retains the definition and focus that I discerned from barrel, coming across quite energetic with pretty Merlot fruit – raspberry coulis, red currant and hints of black truffle. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins and well-judged acidity, nothing too heavy or dense. A more elegant Nenin compared to previous vintages, with good persistence on the finish. This is well worth seeking out. 14.45% alcohol.

The 2019 Nenin was picked from 14 September to 8 October and is matured in 45% new oak barrels. There is a splash more Cabernet Franc in the blend this year, 30%, which benefits this wine. It sports a very attractive nose that to my mind displays more delineation, more clarity than recent vintages. You could almost say that there is a lightness of touch, vivid red and blue fruit mixed with incense and blood orange. The palate is very well balanced with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and just the right amount of salinity. Aeration uncovers hidden spicy notes towards the sappy finish, leaving the mouth tingling after exit. This is an absolutely delightful, accomplished Nenin.

The 2019 Nenin is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, harvested from the 14th of September to the 8th of October. The alcohol weighs in at 14.45% with a pH of 3.59 and an IPT of 75. It is aging in French oak barriques, 45% new. Offering up an opaque purple-black color, aromas of plum preserves, fresh blueberries and boysenberries explode out of the glass, closely followed by a perfume wave of lilacs, star anise, Ceylon tea, eucalyptus and chocolate box. The full-bodied palate is at once rich and sensuous as well as bright and refreshing, with a compelling interplay between spiced, preserved black fruits with lively fresh-berry accents and a racy backbone. The tannins here and wonderfully plush, and it finishes on a lingering anise note. There's so much going on here and it all works together beautifully—a party in your mouth!

A Merlot-dominant blend complemented by 30% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Nenin offers up notes of sweet berries and plums framed by creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy, it’s rich and enveloping, with an ample core of fruit and supple structuring tannins. Four hectares on gravel soils adjacent to Trotanoy lend structure, but the 2019 is so polished out of the gates that it might be easy to miss it.

A beautiful young red with chocolate, hazelnuts and ripe berries. It’s full-bodied with round, juicy tannins. Mineral character to the wine. Smoky and chocolate notes, too. 70% merlot and 30% cabernet franc. Bright, focused finish. Persistent.

Perfumed nose of crushed stones, blackberries and violets. Medium-to full-bodied with very fine tannins and fresh, minerally undertones. So long, showing bitter chocolate that turns to hazelnut and cocoa bean. Tight and precise at the end. 70% merlot and 30% cabernet franc. Try after 2025.

About the Producer

A terroir in the very heart of the Pomerol appellation... Chateau Nénin is one of the most beautiful estates in the appellation. The Grand Vin du Château Nénin is produced on the 8 hectares of the best clay and gravel parcels of the famous Pomerol Plateau. As soon as he bought the estate in 1997, Jean-Hubert Delon immediately undertook major work. Aware of the extraordinary potential of this estate, the vineyard was extensively restructured with new parcels planted with massale selection of the Cabernet Francs from the Léoville Las Cases enclosure. The production equipment have been completely rethought, extended and developed in order to produce the best wines out of the splendid grapes born on this exceptional terroir.
