Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux tasting. The 2012 Nenin, which is the same blend as the 2015, appears to be maturing nicely in bottle after an impressive showing in barrel. Those cassis and blackberry notes are locked in, now augmented by subtle sea spray and rose petal scents, all with fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, very well balanced, though not enormous depth towards the finish that feels just a little austere at the moment; but there is appreciable length and a silky smooth texture. Give this 2-3 more years in barrel. Tasted January 2016.

Composed of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, the deep ruby/plum/purple-colored 2012 Nenin exhibits notes of spring flowers, blueberries, black raspberries and kirsch, a full-bodied, beautifully textured mouthfeel, terrific purity and a long finish. It should drink well for 15+ years. These may turn out to be the finest Pomerols Jean-Hubert Delon and his team have made to date as the 2012s are better than either the 2009s or 2010s.

Jean-Hubert Delon’s Pomerol cru has been steadily improving in recent vintages. Cropped at 35hl/ha, the Grand Vin is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, picked over 8 days from 21st September until the 10th October. There is a lot of freshness on the nose with dark cherry, cassis and blueberry fruit that is lively and joyous. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins. This is tightly wound, very taut with crisp acidity and a tense finish that is very appealing. Tasted April 2013.

The 2012 Nenin is round, soft and caressing, with lovely overall texture and body. Ripe dark cherry, plum, smoke, licorice and spices meld into the expressive finish. Drink this supple, open-knit Pomerol over the next handful of years. Both of these 2012s from Jean-Hubert Delon's Pomerol property are successful.

This is so drinkable now with plum, milk chocolate and walnut character. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a fresh and clean finish. Hard not to drink now, but better in 2017.

Chewy and rich with a walnut, almond and delicate chocolate character as well as the ripe fruit. Full and very rich. Drink now.

A terroir in the very heart of the Pomerol appellation... Chateau Nénin is one of the most beautiful estates in the appellation. The Grand Vin du Château Nénin is produced on the 8 hectares of the best clay and gravel parcels of the famous Pomerol Plateau. As soon as he bought the estate in 1997, Jean-Hubert Delon immediately undertook major work. Aware of the extraordinary potential of this estate, the vineyard was extensively restructured with new parcels planted with massale selection of the Cabernet Francs from the Léoville Las Cases enclosure. The production equipment have been completely rethought, extended and developed in order to produce the best wines out of the splendid grapes born on this exceptional terroir.
