Billing itself as the first “garage wine” from the appellation of Margaux, this comes from a property owned by Philippe Porcheron. The wine, made with meticulous care by the partnership of Muriel Andraud and Jean-Luc Thunevin, consistently performs well above its pedigree. Still youthful, exuberant and rich, this wine has a dense ruby/purple color and beautiful notes of violets, graphite and crème de cassis as well as some blueberry fruit. It is well-endowed, medium to full-bodied, and stunningly proportioned. This wine should continue to evolve and drink well for another 15 or more years.

Possibly the finest Marojallia made to date, the 2005 boasts an opaque blue/black color as well as a beautiful perfume of acacia flowers, creme de cassis, blueberries, licorice, and subtle smoke and mineral characteristics. Full-bodied, elegant, pure, and dense, with sensational texture, sweet tannin, and a stunning finish, it will be at its finest between 2012-2025.

This is the finest effort yet produced by this garagiste Margaux operation. Its inky/black/purple color and gorgeous aromas of melted licorice, sweet creme de cassis, blackberries, smoke, and melted licorice are spectacular. Full-bodied and powerful yet incredibly fresh, well-delineated, and layered, this stunningly proportioned 2005 should age effortlessly for 25+ years. Stunning!

The opaque purple-hued 2005's excellent bouquet of licorice-infused blueberries interwoven with crushed rock, white flower, and cassis scents emanates gently but forcefully from this full-bodied Margaux. The wine is extremely pure and elegant, with sensational texture (a characteristic of so many ‘05 Margaux), a boatload of ripe tannin, and a 45-second finish. While there is tremendous power, depth, and fruit, it does not come across as too heavy or overbearing. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2027.

Deep ruby color. Very rich, deep aromas of kirsch and chocolate liqueur. Superripe, sweet and concentrated, with surprising lift and energy to the plush, layered flavors of dark berries, fruity dark chocolate and leather. Finishes impressively long, with chewy, firm tannins and enticing sweet oak. A superb vintage for this Margaux. I am partial to this style.
About the Producer
When the first vintage wine was launched, there were only 2.5 hectares of vineyards. Later, Philippe Polcheron purchased another 1.5 hectares of vineyards. Today, the total vineyard area of the Marrocians is 4 hectares. The garden is planted with 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, with an average age of 25 years, harvested by hand. The vines are planted at a density of 10,000 plants/ha, but yields are only 2,500 litres/ha. The wines of Château Maroga are usually vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel barrels, followed by Malolactic Fermentation in wooden barrels. The real wines are all aged for 18 to 24 months in new French oak barrels before bottling, with an annual output of about 1,250 cases. The wines launched by the winery include Chateau Marojallia Clos Margalaine, Chateau Marojallia Benjamin De Margalaine, and Marojallia Clos Margalaine. Chateau Marojallia Rose De Margalaine. Although the distinctive winemaking concept of Chateau Maroga has been questioned by many local wineries, its excellent quality is the best proof.
