Description

Côte-Rôtie « La Landonne » completes this famous trilogy. An immense and pure wine with intense flavours and deep colour, this is the perfect wine for ageing.

Tasting notes

This murky, purple/garnet-colored wine offers up an exotic nose of tea, smoked duck, licorice, truffles, and earth. Extraordinarily concentrated, and almost too rich to be called a beverage, this viscous, compellingly endowed, massive La Landonne remains 5-7 years away from full maturity. The wine possesses excruciatingly high tannin in the finish, but awesome levels of extract and glycerin. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2025. Last tasted 6/96.

First tasted in Dec-99: intense deep purple core. Little aging. Dense nose of black fruits/tar and hedgerow. A fantastic full palate with concentrated brambly fruits. Brilliant wine. Again in Nov-03: a much deeper colour than the 1982. A very intense nose, slightly bretty with earthy aromas, tar and perhaps furniture polish. The palate is tannic, very concentrated with an intense black treacle finish. Just a wonderful Cote-Rotie to cherish. Tasted November 2003.

About the Producer

In 1946, Etienne Guigal founded Château Guigal in the village of Ampuis, the winemaking heart of the Rhône. The village of Ampuis is rich in history, with vineyards that are over 2,400 years old and buildings that still date back to Roman times, and it was here that Etienne Guigal arrived in 1923 at the age of 14. He decided to devote himself to winemaking, which he did for more than 67 years. In 1961, the young Marcel Guigal took over the management of the estate from his father. Thanks to Marcel's efforts, Château Guigal began to acquire some well-known wineries and grew in strength.
