Tasting notes

A pretty, perfumed and impressively deep wine, the 2021 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru wafts from the glass with aromas of dark plummy fruit mingled with rose petals, bergamot, cinnamon and cloves. Full-bodied, ample and satiny, with a fleshy core of fruit that's framed by powdery tannins and lively acids, it concludes with good persistence.

The 2021 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru is tasted from separate cuvées and as a final blend. Containing around 80% whole bunches and 60% new oak, it has a beautifully-defined bouquet with dark berry fruit, bay leaf and a touch of white pepper that unfurls in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, raspberry and red plum, sage and white pepper, leading to a very harmonious finish with a hint of underlying citrus fruit. Heavenly.

This is so delicate and trim, which is a big contrast to the ripe, rich and dense 2020 that was tasted alongside. Nuanced, medium-bodied and linear on the palate, with elegant red berries, moss, citrus and a touch of spearmint spreading across the palate. Poised, fine and lengthy. Already very attractive, but will age well for a decade or more. Drink or hold.
About the Producer
At the heart and the summit of the estate visitors will find the eponymous Clos. There are also two plots of the Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru and four plots of the Morey-Saint-Denis village, all of them planted with Pinot noir. With the acquisition of a few “ouvrées” of Chardonnay of two “Climats” classified as Premier Cru in Puligny-Montrachet, les Folatières and the Clos du Cailleret, the estate is now complete. The estate also boasts a castle and its ancient cellar, dating back to the seventeenth century, and of one of the most beautiful gardens of the region. The garden features a three hundred year old cedar as well as orchids and a collection of roses. This classical beauty of the grounds contribute heavily to the wine’s aesthetic qualities.
