Tasting notes

The 2019 Camensac has only improved since I tasted it earlier this year, adding floral aromas of violet and rose to its attractive bouquet of dark berries and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy, it's a lively, concentrated wine that concludes with a long, penetrating finish.

The 2019 Camensac has turned out nicely, exhibiting aromas of blackcurrants, licorice, tobacco leaf and loamy soil, followed by a medium-bodied, fleshy and nicely balanced palate with lively acids and powdery structuring tannins. This will provide classy drinking after a few years in bottle to round out.

The 2019 de Camensac is dark, bold and super-expressive. Black cherry, plum, spice, leather, cedar and dried herbs all come together nicely. There's real depth and substance. The tannins could user another year or two in bottle to soften. Otherwise, the 2019 is impeccable.

The 2019 Camensac is a stellar Haut-Médoc. Dark, savory and super expressive, the 2019 has so much to offer. Dried herbs, flowers, mint, sage and anise are all laced into a core of red berry fruit. The tannins need to soften a bit, but there is time for that. There is so much to look forward to in this exciting wine.

The 2019 Camensac has a slightly higher toned nose with perhaps just a smidgen more VA that just gives the red fruit a bit of a kick. The palate a touch soft on the entry, simple and without the complexity that this vintage offered on a plate. This is a perplexing showing given its impressive performance after bottling. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

The 2019 Château de Camensac is one of the best produced at the estate. Still a little bashful on the nose, it unfolds to offer black fruit, Early Grey tea and tobacco, all beautifully defined and focused. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, and quite linear, yet full of vigor, leading to a spicier finish than was suggested out of barrel. Bon vin!

The 2019 de Camensac is more backward on the nose compared to its peers. Gradually unfurls with broody black fruit, mixed with Earl Grey and freshly rolled tobacco scents, tertiary in nature. Conversely the palate is brighter, equipped with a solid backbone and vibrant black fruit. What I appreciate is the slightly brittle texture towards the classically-styled finish. Huge potential for this superb Haut-Médoc.
