The deep ruby/purple-colored 2000 boasts sweet aromas of soil, kirsch liqueur, raspberries, and currants. Layered and opulent, with sweet tannin and medium to full body, it is atypically large-scaled for a wine from this estate. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2015. Bravo!

The largest estate in Pomerol, De Sales has returned to form after a protracted slump. The 2000 exhibits how excellent these consumer-friendly wines can be. Offering copious levels of black cherry fruit, leather, balsam, spice box, and caramel, this soft, lush, pure offering is a sleeper of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: now-2014.
