Containing an unusually elevated 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2021 Pibran offers up aromas of dark berries, cherries, cigar wrapper and sweet soil tones. Medium-bodied, ample and lively, with powdery tannins, impressive concentration for the vintage and a penetrating finish, this is a terrific effort.

The 2021 Pibran opens in the glass with notes of sweet cassis, red berries and pencil shavings, followed by a medium-bodied, deep and structured palate that's pure and flavorful, with lively acids and chalky tannins that reflect the blend's unusually high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. It's one 2021 that will reward a little patience.

The 2021 Pibran, which contains more Cabernet Sauvignon compared to recent vintages, matured in 40% new oak, has an attractive bouquet of blackberry, violet petals and touches of pencil lead. This feels quite open. The palate is medium-bodied with a granular entry, moderate depth, light black pepper notes and a straightforward, fresh finish. Enjoy over the next 12–14 years.

A fine, spicy and polished Pauillac with a sleek and supple tannin frame. Pretty core of blue and purple fruit with some peppercorns and cloves. All in balance. 63% cabernet sauvignon and 37% merlot.

This red shows attractive and subtle fruit including lemon-peel and currant aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied with fine tannins. Bright but a little light at the finish. Drink now.
About the Producer
The birth of Chateau Pibran dates back to the start of the 20th century. The estate was bought in 1941 by Paul Pibran Billa. Paul Pibran Billa renamed the property, using his middle name of Pibran. From that day forward the estate was known as Chateau Pibran.Chateau Pibran was purchased by the AXA group in 1987 from the Billa family. At the time of the purchase, Jean Michel Cazes of Chateau Lynch Bages was placed in charge of managing the estate for AXA.In 2001, the AXA group enlarged the estate with the purchase of additional vines in Pauillac when they obtained the neighboring estate, Chateau La Tour Pibran from the Gounel family. The 17-hectare vineyard of Chateau Pibran is planted to 54% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1% Cabernet Franc. The Petit Verdot was removed and replaced by the Cabernet Franc. With that much Merlot planted in their vineyards, Chateau Pibran has perhaps the largest percentage of Merlot in Pauillac.
