Description

Clos des Goisses is the most powerful of all Champagnes. It is produced using grapes grown on a unique, pure chalk hillside with a 45 degree slope facing due south, in Mareuil-sur-Ay. Its name certainly reveals its true nature, in the old champagne dialect, Gois or Goisse means a very steep slope. This is always a vintage wine with a very low dosage. Vinified mainly in wooden casks with no malolactic fermentation, it is distinctively full-bodied with an exceptionally long finish. A very great wine as well as being a very great Champagne, clos des Goisses is specifically intended as an accompaniment to haute cuisine. Mineral and intense, it makes an unforgettable match for dishes with strong flavours: game, truffles, caviar and cheese.

2009: A ripe year with great contrasts, which finished very well! After a severe winter, spring was stormy. Mild, wet weather was conducive to outbreaks of mildew. Luckily five weeks of warm, dry weather just before the grape harvest led to exceptional grape soundness. The vintage was fruit-laden with moderate acidity. There was more sunshine during the year than in 2008, with levels approaching those of 2002. Harvest from 13 to 16 September. - Word from Master Cellar Fresh and mineral-driven. The fruity notes of Morello cherry and spices are apparent on the finish. An intense, well-structured wine with a wonderfully long finish.

The 2009 Clos des Goisses has been very tight in two recent tastings, which is probably a very good thing for its long-term prospects, but less so for readers seeking the immediacy that is common in so many 2009 Champagnes. White flowers, orchard fruit, mint white pepper and citrus peel add to the wine’s bright profile. Readers should plan on being extremely patient, as the 2009 Goisses does not show much, if any, early appeal, even if the density and textural persistence of the great years are both there. The 2009 is 61% Pinot Noir and 39% Chardonnay. Dosage is 4.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: March, 2018.

The 2009 Clos des Goisses, tasted from a trial disgorgement, is more than a worthy follow up to the stunning 2008. Bright, focused and powerful, with terrific freshness for the year, the 2009 is pure sensuality. To be sure, there is plenty of vintage 2009 radiance to the citrus, orchard fruit and pastry flavors, but the blocked-malo style helps the wine retain plenty of verve. The 2009 is 61% Pinot Noir and 39% Chardonnay, with no malolactic fermentation. Charles Philipponnat chose to scale down the number of lots fermented in oak to 37% in order to temper some of the natural richness of the year. He seems to have succeeded, as the 2009 retains terrific vibrancy.

About the Producer

Philibonne Champagne's winemaking philosophy is: let nature take its course. They believe that a good winemaker does not need to carry out large-scale reforms on wine, because the personality and characteristics of grapes are all derived from nature, and any artificial modification will only affect the quality of the wine. God has given Philippine Champagne its unique soil and climate, which give its wines a unique quality and character. The rich aroma and fresh taste of Philippine Champagne make it a perfect match with a variety of cuisines, making it a favorite of many top restaurants, hotels, gourmets and connoisseurs. Philipponna has a wide range of champagnes, including Philipponnat Brut Royale Reserve, Philipponnat Brut Reserve Rosee and Philipponnat Grande Champagne. Blanc). In addition, Filippona is proud of the aged Clos des Goisses. After a long period of ageing, the Champagne Côtes de la Garcia must be freed of precipitation as required and with the personal approval of Mr. Charles Philipponnat, the current head of Champagne Philipponnat. The complex and fresh taste of the Champagne Cerro Champagne gives people a wonderful enjoyment. This wine has great ageing potential, with the oldest wines dating back to the 1940s.
