A ripe, woodsy wine with plenty of forest floor, black currant, cherry and dusty, loamy soil notes, this wine is showing quite well, with medium to full-bodied, silky tannins and a long finish. It should certainly last for 20+ years.

Tasted at the chateau. The crop was picked for the Merlot, from 30th September until 9th October, the Cabernet Sauvignon from 5th October until 19th October, the Petit Verdot on 9th October. The blend is 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot with the alcohol level at around 13.8% and pH 3.55 matured in 50% new oak. Very deep, almost opaque purple hue. The nose is opulent and very ripe, moderate definition, blackberry, cassis, a touch of blueberry, orange liqueur and a touch of anis. The palate is full-bodied with supple, rounded tannins, good structure and very pure. The longer this remains in the mouth, the more that I warm to this, a Margaux daring towards opulence but at the final moment, remembering were it was born and applying an austere break right on the finish. Given that this is Ludovic David’s first vintage, it should be considered a great success. Drink 2013-2025+ Tasted March 2010.

The finest wine I have ever tasted from Marquis de Terme, this seamless beauty exhibits a dense ruby/purple color along with a big, sweet bouquet of licorice, seaweed, black currants, and spring flowers. Medium to full-bodied with silky tannins, a rich, concentrated mouthfeel, and a long, layered finish, it will benefit from 3-4 years of cellaring, and should evolve for 20-25 years. Tasted at the Union de Grand Cru in London. The 2009 has great precision and freshness on the nose with the mineralite coming through with every swirl. The palate is very concentrated with thick, quite chewy tannins, great substance and depth with a sweet, voluptuous finish that lingers in the mouth. It will need several years to mellow but it will be worth the wait. Tasted October 2011.

Served blind at the Southwold 2009 tasting. There is a Burgundy-like purity on the nose of the Marquis de Terme: perfumed scents of rose petals, bergamot and small dark cherries mingling with cassis. The palate is medium-bodied with a crisp, compact entry. It is very tight and broody but fresh and well defined with a chewy peppery finish. Fine. Tasted January 2013.

The 2009 Marquis de Terme has a creamy and quite oaky bouquet that is high-toned but lacking the same degree of terroir expression as its peers. The palate is very sweet and candied on the entry, almost honeyed in texture with brown sugar notes towards the finish that feels rather cloying. This is a disappointing showing vis-à-vis the last bottle tasted in 2011. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting.

Loads of dark berries and chocolate follow through to a full body. Velvety and tangy with a long finish. Lots of orange peel. Dusty texture. Better in 2017.
About the Producer
The grapes of the Marquis de Damon estate are all hand-picked, and only the grapes that have been strictly screened can enter the subsequent winemaking process. During the brewing process, the winery uses gravity to transport the grape juice, not pumping. The grape juice will be fermented in concrete tanks, stainless steel tanks or temperature-controlled oak barrels, and the fermented wine will be transferred to French oak barrels to mature for 16-18 months (of which the proportion of new barrels is 50%). Starting from the 2016 vintage, the manor has also specially used wine bottles with anti-counterfeiting and product tracking functions to package the wines of the winery. Consumers can use the QR code scanning function of smartphones to enter relevant websites to complete the identification of wines. At present, the Marquis de Damon mainly produces five types of red wines, among which the quality of the authentic wine, the Chateau Marquis de Terme, Margaux, France, is particularly excellent. Powerful and elegant, this wine is full-bodied, tannin and chewy, with rich fruit flavors and a balanced structure. It has won many wine competitions and many leading wine critics and wine critics. High score.
