Tasting notes

Tasted at -Texture- restaurant in London with Ludovic David. A blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot, the 1990 Marquis de Terme has a complex nose with dried herbs, thyme, a touch of balsamic and cedar. A very -seasoned- bouquet, possibly thanks to the ripe Petit Verdot. The palate does not quite meet the promise of the nose, simpler than I expected but at least balanced. Notes of black olive tapenade, black plum and for a 1990 a little sharper and leathery towards the finish than others in its alumni. Pleasurable, but I would not leave it much longer. Drink now-2015. Tasted February 2010.

Spicy new oak and copious quantities of black fruits dominate the nose of the 1990. The wine exhibits medium body, an expansive, lush richness, plenty of extract and glycerin, fine tannins, and a smooth finish. Anticipated maturity: 1995-2002.

Spicy new oak and copious quantities of black fruits dominate the nose at the moment. In the mouth, the wine exhibits medium body, an expansive, lush richness, gobs of extract and glycerin, fine tannins, and a smooth finish. It is another tasty effort from this estate that is now producing fine wine at realistic prices. Anticipated maturity: 1995-2002.

The 1990 Marquis de Terme cannot compare with the 1989 on the nose. The larger yields render this comparatively loose-knit without the same fruit concentration. It's slightly earthy in style with hints of burning embers and clove. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, harmonious though without the depth and grip of the previous vintage. High-toned with veins of blue fruit appear towards the finish. This is drinking perfectly now but will keep for another 10 to 15 years. Tasted at the Marquis de Terme vertical.

About the Producer

The grapes of the Marquis de Damon estate are all hand-picked, and only the grapes that have been strictly screened can enter the subsequent winemaking process. During the brewing process, the winery uses gravity to transport the grape juice, not pumping. The grape juice will be fermented in concrete tanks, stainless steel tanks or temperature-controlled oak barrels, and the fermented wine will be transferred to French oak barrels to mature for 16-18 months (of which the proportion of new barrels is 50%). Starting from the 2016 vintage, the manor has also specially used wine bottles with anti-counterfeiting and product tracking functions to package the wines of the winery. Consumers can use the QR code scanning function of smartphones to enter relevant websites to complete the identification of wines. At present, the Marquis de Damon mainly produces five types of red wines, among which the quality of the authentic wine, the Chateau Marquis de Terme, Margaux, France, is particularly excellent. Powerful and elegant, this wine is full-bodied, tannin and chewy, with rich fruit flavors and a balanced structure. It has won many wine competitions and many leading wine critics and wine critics. High score.
