Tasting notes

The 2024 Dolcetto d'Alba is plump, juicy and expressive. Black cherry, plum, cloves, licorice and chocolate are pushed forward. This shows terrific depth and textural persistence, both qualities that were in short supply in 2024. Delicious.

I tasted the Luciano Sandrone 2024 Dolcetto d'Alba alongside the 2023 vintage and was able to compare the two wines in real time. Whereas the 2023 feels riper and somewhat prune-like, this wine delivers prettier fruit with a lighter frame and a shorter finish. Ultimately, I prefer the 2024 for its drinkability and freshness. Notes of wild plum and blackberry are accented by a touch of black pepper spice that emerges on the back end, adding complexity without weighing down the wine. The overall presentation is informal, bright and easygoing, exactly the sort of Dolcetto that invites another glass.
