Tasting notes

This is an extraordinarily sumptuous, glycerin-imbued, fat, full-bodied wine with up-front appeal. But don't be fooled. It is loaded with tannin and requires cellaring. The 1997 Barolo Cannubi Boschis is rich, but backward. Massive in the mouth, oozing glycerin and extract, with blackberry and cherry fruit meshed with dried herb, mineral, and subtle oak, this huge, chewy, unctuously-textured, powerful wine will drink well between 2003-2020. The 1997 is rich and alcoholic on the nose, displaying aromas of very sweet fruit with a slightly evolved character. It is super-rich and concentrated on the palate, offering intense sweet fruit and mineral flavors, but with notable balance for the vintage, closing with a final lingering note of sweetness. This is drinking well now and should last at least another ten years. 93 points/drink now-

The prodigious 1997 Barolo Cannubi Boschis possesses a dark saturated garnet color. The sweet nose of black fruits, minerals, scorched earth, smoke, dried herbs, and wet stones is stunning. Amazingly concentrated, with tremendous unctuousity yet superb delineation, this large-scaled as well as elegant Barolo possesses fabulous extract as well as a multidimensional mid-palate and finish. It is an amazing effort! Anticipated maturity: 2003-2020. A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel.
