The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Marroneto is striking. Freshly cut roses, sweet red berries, mint and licorice are some of the many notes that flesh out in the glass. Firm tannins provide the backbone to the fruit. The 2007 impresses for its freshness, vibrancy and fabulous overall balance. Bright, high-toned floral notes add lift on the finish. Most important of all, the wine is flat-out delicious. This is a fabulous showing from Il Marroneto. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. Some volatility, with plums and mahogany. Full body, with silky tannins and bright acidity. Firm and slightly lean, but attractive. Decant before serving.

Medium red. High-pitched aromas of cherry, rose petal, licorice and herbs, along with a whiff of leather. Dense, smooth and penetrating, with lovely floral energy and lift, not to mention sneaky sweetness, to the red cherry flavor. Finishes with a firm tannic backbone and a sappy quality, spreading out nicely on the aftertaste. Built to age, and not for drinking now.
About the Producer
Il Marroneto was purchased in 1974 by Giuseppe Mori, father of the current owner, Alessandro Mori. Il Marroneto created some of the most elegant and long-lived Brunello in the appellation. Alessandro Mori veers strictly to the traditionalist canon of Brunello producers, with his long-term commitment and passion devoted to wine. Il Marroneto, is today regarded as one of the ten historic producers in Montalcino among the most famous, important and well known in our area and out after more than 30 years. Their Brunello is made in a traditional way, aged in large oak barrels from Allier and Slovenia, vinified according to the traditional systems of Montalcino; the result is a very elegant wine, rich in aromas, classic, suitable for meditation. A wine that arouses strong emotions, like the great love and care with which it was created.
