The 2004 Barolo Bricco Boschis tastes just like it did from barrel, which is to say sweet, layered and totally irresistible. The ripe red fruit is incredibly primary, and this wine is years away from offering its finest drinking, but it is already very impressive at this stage. This is an especially refined, elegant vintage for this wine, and I can only say that I await the Riservas with eager anticipation. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024. I can’t think of too many estates whose wines have given me as much pleasure in recent years as those of the Cavallotto family. With each passing vintage the wines seem to grow leaps and bounds and the 2004 Barolo Bricco Boschis is no exception. This fresh, perfumed Barolo blossoms with the essence of red raspberries, flowers and spices. Made in a plump, fruit driven style, it possesses superb length and a completely seductive, rapturous personality. Cavallotto’s Bricco Boschis can be somewhat rustic and chunky, but in 2004 it is a remarkably finessed Barolo. If the bottled wine is anything like this barrel sample, the 2004 will be the finest Bricco Boschis yet. About the Producer
At the gates of Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of the Barolo Zone, on the slopes of the Bricco Boschis, one finds the Cavallotto Winery, which lies on 25 hectares of land. Since 1928, the Cavallotto family has owned the estate Tenuta Bricco Boschis. In 1946, they were the first cultivators in Castiglione Falletto to vinify all of their estate’s fruit. In 1948 they released the first bottling of their own BAROLO wine, with the label and registered trademark of Cavallotto. Today the children of Olivio – Laura, Giuseppe and Alfio, the 4th generation working the family farm – continue to exclusively vinify the grapes produced in their estate vineyards into DOC and DOCG wines: Barolo, Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba, Langhe Nebbiolo, Langhe Freisa, Langhe “Grign” made from Grignolino grapes, Langhe Chardonnay and “Pinner” made from Pinot Nero grapes.
