A blend of 55% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Tronquoy-Lalande races out of the glass with bright, exuberant scents of Morello cherries, mulberries, warm plums and fresh blackcurrants plus touches of allspice, candied violets and tilled soil. Medium-bodied, the palate is laden with expressive black and red fruits plus loads of floral accents and a wonderfully plush texture, finishing long and fragrant.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Tronquoy-Lalande (a blend of 55% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc) has intense, exuberant scents of crushed black currants, Bing cherries and blackberries with touches of tobacco, yeast extract and tilled soil. The palate is medium-bodied, firm and chewy with great freshness and lively fruit, finishing earthy.

Open and perfumed, the 2017 Tronquoy-Lalande bursts with aromas of sweet blackberries, spices and cherries. Medium to full-bodied, supple and charming, its melting tannins cloaked in an ample core of fruit, this bright, expressive wine is already drinking well.

The 2017 Tronquoy-Lalande, picked from 12 September to 3 October, has a pleasant bouquet of blackberry, wild hedgerow and punnets of strawberries. It is not complex but the purity of fruit is commendable. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannins: mulberry, black plum, and a pinch of sea salt. A fleshy finish maybe just lacks the edge that a greater growing season might have bestowed. Drink over the next decade.

A firm and silky red with blackberries, dark chocolate and spices. Crushed stones, too. Full-to medium-bodied, tight and tannic. Lively.

This is a delicious red with ripe plums and chocolate with some hazelnuts and spices. Full-bodied, dense and layered. Shows excellent depth and flavor. Same quality as the excellent 2016. A blend of 55% merlot, 37% cabernet sauvignon, 6% petit verdot and 2% cabernet franc. Better after 2021.

About the Producer

Château Tronquoy-Lalande is a 30-hectare estate in St Estèphe on Bordeaux’s Left Bank. The property is owned by the Bouygues family, proprietors of nearby Ch. Montrose. In her book Inside Bordeaux, Jane Anson calls Tronquoy-Lalande “one of the most reliable buys of the appellation.” The Bouygues family bought Tronquoy-Lalande in 2006. Their portfolio also includes near-neighbour Montrose, Clos Rougeard in Saumur-Champigny and a majority stake in Domaine Henri Rebourseau in Gevrey-Chambertin. Hervé Berland, formerly Managing Director at Ch. Mouton Rothschild, oversees all the estates. Tronquoy-Lalande’s Operations Manager, Yves Delsol, has been here for decades. The 30-hectare vineyard surrounds the château. Soils here are deep gravel and clay. Plantings are a majority of Merlot (52%), with 39% Cabernet Sauvignon and the balance split between Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. A new winery was completed here in 2010.
