Tasting notes

The most open-knit of Vincent Dauvissat’s premiers crus this year, the 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre exhibits a slightly muskier and more powerful profile than Séchet and La Forest, bursting from the glass with scents of pear, orange zest and honeysuckle mingling with notes of beeswax. Like the Vaillons, this is quite richly structured and expressive. Medium to full-bodied, with an ample mid-palate and textural, it concludes with a long, chalky finish.

Tasted from barrel, I noted that the 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre was the most demonstrative of the set; now in bottle, after extended élevage, it has gained tension and cut. The nose mingles pear and orange zest with hints of beeswax and iodine. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, ample and textural, supported by lively acidity and anchored by a chalky backbone. The finish is long, resonant and searingly saline.
About the Producer
One of the most prestigious producers in the Chablis region of Northern Burgundy, Rene et Vincent Dauvissat is a family estate that has been operating since 1931. Originally founded by Rene Dauvisset, whose son Vincent started assisting his father in 1976. The vineyard covers an area of 14 hectares. Although the estate produces a Villages Chablis and a Petit Chablis that are difficult to get a hold of, they are known for their prized Grand Cru and Premier Cru bottlings from the top vineyards in Chablis including the renown Les Clos and Les Preuses.
