Tasting notes

Tasted at Jasper Morris’s book launch at The Ledbury. This is a fine Corton-Charlemagne from Louis Latour. It has a very impressive minerally nose with crisp citrus peel, flint and a puff of chalk dust. It speaks well of its place of birth. The palate does not quite meet the promise of the nose, with elegant tropical-tinged fruit and a twist of Clementine towards the finish that needs more persistency. Fine. Tasted October 2010.

After the disappointing 1999 and 2000, this is much better. A fine flinty nose. Greater definition than the other wines. The palate is poised, crisp and quite powerful with a minerality that was missing from the others. Focused and harmonious, but certainly needs time. Very fine. 4/05

Spicy stones can be discerned in the aromatics of the 2002 Corton-Charlemagne. Light to medium-bodied, fresh, and revealing impressive depth as well as concentration, it displays liquefied rock, pear, and apple flavors throughout its lengthy character. Notes of roasted herbs and minerals make their presence felt in its long, suave finish. Anticipated maturity: now-2012. Maison Louis Latour has a different importer in each state.
