The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder is as compelling a Cabernet Sauvignon as one could ever hope to taste. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from a high-elevation site boasts an inky/purple color, and smells of ink, blueberry liqueur, blackberries, black raspberries, mulberries, licorice, charcoal and camphor. With magnificent fruit richness, a layered, full-bodied mouthfeel, and incredible length, this seamlessly constructed 2012 should provide immense pleasure for 25+ years. Kudos to winemaker Chris Carpenter as he is clearly at the top of his game.

Lokoya's 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder presents a more linear and less voluptuous expression of mountain Cabernet Sauvignon than the Howell Mountain bottling tasted alongside it. Energy, tension and pulsating vibrancy are the signatures. Dark blue and purplish fruit, menthol, cedar and licorice meld together in an ample, broad Cabernet Sauvignon supported by huge beams of tannin. Beautifully balanced and harmonious throughout, the 2012 should drink beautifully for many years to come.

Lokoya consistently produces some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignons from four of Napa Valley's most renowned mountain appellations: Mount Veeder, Howell Mountain, Diamond Mountain District, and Spring Mountain District. These single-vineyard wines, made in very limited quantities, are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented with native yeast, and bottled unfined and unfiltered — resulting in the purest expression of place. They are powerful wines that reflect the intense individuality of each mountain. Sparse soils, high elevations, good drainage and the cool climates of the mountains form the backbone for these intense Cabernet Sauvignons. The Lokoya name honours the Native American tribe who lived on Mount Veeder in the western mountains of the Napa Valley prior to the arrival of viticulture in the 19th century. Paying tribute to those who farmed the Napa soils before them, Lokoya Cabernet reflects the soils and microclimates of the Napa Valley.
