The 2020 Le Plus has a deep purple-black color, needing a little swirling and coaxing to unlock beguiling notes of forest floor, dried lavender and iron ore over a core of kirsch, black raspberries and plum preserves. The medium to full-bodied palate shimmers with lively, perfumed black fruits, supported by ripe, rounded tannins and a racy backbone, finishing with a skip in its step.

The 2020 Le Plus de la Fleur de Boüard has a voluminous, almost brash bouquet of multilayered black cherries, cassis, crushed violet and light camphor aromas. The ripe, dense palate is powerful and intense, the weight of black and red fruit counterbalanced by acidity that mounts an almost citric attack on the finish. I actually prefer the regular cuvée , which demonstrated more refinement, but this should still age well.
About the Producer
Le Plus de La Fleur de Boüard is made from the oldest vines planted on land consisting of clay-topped boulders expressing the full character of the hotel's ancient Merlot grapes, the only variety used. The yields of these very old vines are apparently very low, ranging from 15 to 29 hectoliters per hectare. The wines are aged for a very long time: 33 months in barrels and 18 months on fine lees. The resulting wine is smooth and elegant. It has a perfect balance and a lovely freshness. This lush, mouth-watering wine offers intense aromas and outstanding elegance.
