A highly promising wine, the 2015 Le Plus de la Fleur de Boüard (Merlot) is just as impressive today as it was two years ago. Rich, sumptuous and juicy, it is wonderfully intense in all of its dimensions. Black cherry, bittersweet chocolate, new leather, licorice and cloves infuse the powerful, voluptuous finish. The 2015 was set to be bottled in May or June of 2017.

The 2015 Le Plus de la Fleur de Boüard offers notable density and plenty of impact. Black cherry, smoke, mocha, plum, licorice, torrefaction and bittersweet chocolate are some of the signatures. There is plenty of richness in the glass, but the ripe, heavily extracted style also comes with a loss of freshness. Readers should expect a big wine. Tasted two times.

The 2015 La Fleur de Bouard Le Plus has an intense, corpulent, ravishing bouquet with sexy blueberry, blackberry and cassis aromas shrouded by just a touch of alcohol. The palate is full-bodied with dense, but polished tannin. This is a harmonious Lalande-de-Pomerol, sleek and smooth with layers of sweet black fruit, but it just misses the precision and refinement that others possess. Still, it feels long in the mouth - one for those seeking hedonistic pleasure.

The 2015 Le Plus from Le Fleur de Boüard was actually still in barrel and it should be bottled at some point in the future, probably at around 30 months. It has a dense blackberry, mulberry and cassis-scented bouquet that needs a little more delineation. For some reason it reminded me of a modern-style Rioja. The palate is dense and tannic, bold and assertive and yet there is still a sense of balance here and freshness on the finish. It is a modern, hedonistic wine that is not my cup of tea although I can see that it is well crafted and will give pleasure to others. Me? I’d opt for the beautiful Bellevue!

About the Producer
Le Plus de La Fleur de Boüard is made from the oldest vines planted on land consisting of clay-topped boulders expressing the full character of the hotel's ancient Merlot grapes, the only variety used. The yields of these very old vines are apparently very low, ranging from 15 to 29 hectoliters per hectare. The wines are aged for a very long time: 33 months in barrels and 18 months on fine lees. The resulting wine is smooth and elegant. It has a perfect balance and a lovely freshness. This lush, mouth-watering wine offers intense aromas and outstanding elegance.
