The Le Macchiole 2022 Bolgheri Rosso is currently on the market with a new vintage arriving soon. The 2022 growing season was hot and dry. In comparison, 2023 was hot with more rain toward the end of the season. This expression shows terrific fruit definition and firmness, with present but mild tannins at the back, and unexpected freshness that does the trick. The blend is Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah that sees a quick 12 days of skin maceration and is partially aged in cement and partially in oak.

This is really polished and gentle, with ultra-fine tannins that run the length of the wine. It's medium-bodied with a creamy texture and a long and expressive finish of red fruit, stone and thyme. Drink or hold.

The 2022 Bolgheri Rosso is a soft, easygoing red to drink now and over the next few years. Sweet red cherry fruit, pipe tobacco, cedar and spice open nicely, giving this mid-weight Rosso plenty of charm. Soft contours wrap it all together in style.
About the Producer
“Le Macchiole is renowned for its Messorio which is without a doubt one of Italy’s most charismatic Merlots.” - James Suckling Founded in 1983 by Eugenio Campolmi and Cinzia Merli, Le Macchiole was one of the first wineries to be established in Bolgheri, in Tuscany. The ongoing development of this 24 hectare, organically farmed estate, has enabled the winery to become a leading Italian brand. Now under the leadership of Cinzia and her talented team, there is a rigorous approach to everything that they do. This shows itself in championing single varieties in their very top wines, in planting density and viticulture, harvest and wine making. One variety, one wine, is the philosophy adopted by the winery. All the Macchiole’s top wines are single-varietal bottling: Using Syrah to produce Scrio, Merlot to make Messorio and the Cabernet Franc is kept for the iconic wine, Paleo Rosso, recognized as one of the finest examples of Bolgheri winemaking.
