The 2014 Laroque is a plump, juicy wine to drink now and over the next few years. Sweet red cherry, plum, mocha and floral notes, along with soft contours, add to the wine's considerable near- and medium-term appeal. It will be interesting to see what new estate manager David Suire brings to Laroque in forthcoming vintages.

The 2014 Laroque feels muffled on the nose, the oak not quite in sync with the fruit and masking the terroir. The palate is medium-bodied with rustic, slightly coarse tannin, masculine and grippy but missing the charm one expects from a Saint-Émilion. However, it seems to improve with aeration, gaining more harmony and the fruit finally appearing. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

The Château Laroque 2014 has an airy bouquet that feels just a little too diffuse. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a rather lean mid-palate with a simple but fresh, easy-drinking finish.

The 2014 Laroque has a well-defined bouquet with blackberry, bilberry, a light marine scent and tobacco that comes through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp acidity, a brightness and sense of energy that is very satisfying. Whilst it might just lack a little complexity, the balance and use of oak is top notch and it just sings on the finish. This comes recommended. This has turned out much better than I originally thought.

Some obvious toasty oak aromas here, but this fairly sleek and tannic wine also has plenty of fruit up its sleeve and comes across fresh and lively, rather than heavy or ponderous. Better in 2019.

Since the 12th century, Château Laroque has occupied an historical terroir, a mix of limestone rock and fine clays, superbly located on the slopes and high boint of the plateau of Saint-Emilion. Superbly located on one of the highest points of Saint-Emilion, Laroque's limestone terroirs have once again shone through brilliantly in this 201% They have produced wines that are bright, floral and spicy, with fresh salinity and a noble texture, which are the hallmark traits of this estate.
