Tasting notes

Reviewed by: William Kelley
The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée was harvested on September 3, three days after La Grande Montagne, and is also showing beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, peach, melon and fresh fennel mingled with subtle hints of nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless, it's glossy and enveloping, its ample core of fruit girdled by lively acids, concluding with a saline finish.
About the Producer
Domaine Lamy-Caillat is the secret garden of two passionate and talented bourguignons: Sébastien Caillat and Florence Lamy. This tiny estate of Lamy-Caillat and 1.2 hectares was founded in 2011 and rooted in Chassagne-Montrachet, Domaine Lamy-Caillat when the couple took over vineyards from an elderly neighbor who was looking to find winegrowers that would take good care of these terroirs. While the Lamy-Pillot wines are crafted in an accessible style, the couple wanted to attempt something more artisanal and minimally processed with their micro-domaine. Artisanal winemaking and, above all, long élevage is what defines this domaine, with the wines spending two winters on the lees before bottling by hand after natural clarification. “Small plots, Great care” is the motto here.
