Tasting notes

Reviewed by: Neal Martin
The L’Extravagant de Doisy-Daëne 2014 has a very intense bouquet of wild honey, acacia and orange blossom that soars from the glass. The palate is unctuous, decadent and powerful – completely living up to its name – with layers of honeyed fruit on the long finish. It is like a super-charged Beerenauslese, somehow retaining immense tension and precision on the finish. For hedonists only. Queue up.
About the Producer
Doisy-Daene winery mainly promotes unique taste of noble rot sweet white wine. The currently released wines are: Doisy-Daene winery noble rot sweet white wine (Chateau Doisy-Daene, Barsac, France), Doisy-Daene winery Chateau Doisy-Daene L'Extravagant and Doisy-Daene L'Extravagant, Barsac, France. Among them, the birth of this luxurious noble rot sweet white wine of Dorsey Dane winery stems from an accidental and bold idea. In 1990, Dennis postponed the harvest of grapes infected with noble rot until early November, when the grapes were harvested. The pulp has been exposed to the air, and the sugar is highly concentrated, like candy. At this time, the winery staff picked the grapes one by one and used them to make this sweet and mellow wine. However, since this wine grape is limited in production and not available every year, this wine is only made in certain years, which shows its rarity and luxury.
