The 2017 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is the most reserved, most complex and most concentrated wine in the cellar, unfurling in the glass to reveal notions of white flowers, tangerine oil, fresh power, toast and wet stones. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, satiny and multidimensional, with a broad but elegant attack and an ample mid-palate, underpinned by a bright line of acidity. It's the culmination of a very successful vintage chez Carillon.

Aromas of fresh pear, white flowers, orange oil, pastry cream and toasted almonds introduce the 2017 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, a full-bodied, layered and concentrated wine that's satiny and textural, its expansive attack segueing into a deep and racy core, concluding with a saline, penetrating, and delicately musky finish. I tend to think of this cuvée from Carillon as the reference point for the appellation and the 2017 rendition certainly merits that status.

About the Producer

Always bound by his village and vines, Jehan Carillon was already a winemaker in 1520. Sylvia and Jacques are produced from 5 hectares/12.5 acres of land, exclusively planted in the best climate of Puligny-Montrachet. All wines come from our own vineyards. Puligny-Montrachet is a historic village, a symbol of Burgundy viticulture. It is part of the extraordinary Côte de Beaune, Chardonnay Paradise. Considered to be the main production area of the most complex white wines in the world, benefiting from the most famous terroirs. Vinification and aging are done in oak barrels. Pressing and settling for 12 to 18 hours before the juice is rolled into barrels, where alcoholic and malolactic fermentation takes place The style of Jacques Carillon is very classic in all its nuances, maintaining a balance between the power, sophistication and mineral sophistication that characterize the Jacques Carillon terroir.
