Description
Monvigliero hill is historically recognised as the “grand cru” of Verduno and one of the most representative of the entire Barolo area. Our vineyard is over 35 years old and is situated at an altitude of about 320 metres, facing south. It produces an austere but elegant wine, distinguished by aromatic complexity and depth of flavour.

The 2022 Barolo Monvigliero shows why this is such a great site. Even in the torrid and parched 2022 vintage, the Monvigliero retains all of its signatures. Crushed flowers, bright red-toned fruit, chalk, mint, rose petal, white pepper and vibrant saline notes all race out of the glass. This has real potential.

The Fratelli Alessandria 2022 Barolo Monvigliero is similarly finely knit and lean in consistency with aromas of dried currant, pressed violet and the peppery spice that is so often associated with Verduno. Fermented with about one month of skin contact and aged for three years in large Slavonian and French oak casks, the wine emphasizes transparency over extraction. It is silky and slender in texture, favoring elegance over power with only lightly etched tannins that never dominate the finish. Fratelli Alessandria was the first estate to bottle Monvigliero under its own label, beginning with the 1978 vintage, and production today totals 6,000 bottles.
