Tasting notes

A rich, sumptuous wine, the 2017 Ferrière is bursting at the seams with super-ripe black cherry, chocolate, new leather, licorice and cloves. Deep, rich and ample on the palate with tremendous depth and a long finish, Ferrière is an absolute winner in 2017. Readers should expect an especially overt style, and yet all the elements are very nicely balanced. The 2017 is flat-out delicious. Claire Villars Lurton gave the 2017 18 months in French oak, 40% new.

A very precise and center weighted red with very attractive blackberry and blueberry character. Tight and long. Demeter certified biodynamic.

Quite rich, ripe dark berries and dark plums here with cedary oak and gently stony notes, too. The palate offers a suave and elegant, fresh impression of mainly red fruit with a nicely compressed tannin texture. Good balance. Very drinkable. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
About the Producer
Located in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, France, Chateau Ferriere is rated as a third growth in the Bordeaux 1855 classification. The vineyards of Château Férier cover 20 hectares, located between the Atlantic Ocean and the wide mouth of the Gironde, in a mild and humid climate. The soil is well-drained gravelly and poor, which allows the vines to root downwards, thus producing a more concentrated wine grape. The vineyard is currently planted with 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Chateau Ferriere, Margaux, France is the main wine of the estate, made from organically grown grapes, with aromas of blackberry and graphite, richness, freshness and vibrancy. In addition, the estate produces two secondary wines, La Dame de Ferriere (Margaux, France) and Les Remparts de Ferriere (Margaux, France), which are made from younger grapes harvested from the vineyard. These two wines are made from young grapes harvested from the vineyard, with an elegant bouquet of fruit and a balanced palate.
