The 2015 Fontalloro is a landmark achievement. The bouquet strikes out with immediate complexity. It dangles aromas of black cherry, spice, tar, forest floor, wild rose and campfire ash in front of your nose with seductive allure. The unified presentation and delivery of all those aromas is profound and impressive. This edition of Fontalloro is exceptionally smooth and silky in texture and this is surely linked to the ripe, soft and finely textured fruit produced in this vintage. This is a pure expression of Sangiovese that is aged in barrique for up to 22 months. Some 30,000 bottles were produced.

Sangiovese is elevated to a level of exceptional finesse and purity in this stunningly beautiful, vivid edition of Fontalloro. In fact, 2015 is one of the few vintages where Fontalloro runs truly neck and neck with Rancia. Pliant, silky and floral, Fontalloro is wonderfully sensual from the very first taste. Sandy soils confer aromatic intensity to this super-expressive, arrestingly beautiful wine from Fèlsina.

Another impressive 2015, the Fontalloro is a wine of breadth, power and persistence. Today, the oak is still not fully integrated, but there is more than enough depth and resonance in the fruit to make me think that will happen. I can't wait to taste the 2015 from bottle.

This shows serious density and balance with a blackberry, licorice and blueberry character. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Sleek and racy. Structured yet wonderfully polished. Drink in 2021.

About the Producer

Etienne Sousse is a winery in Puligny-Montrachet that produces some of the most popular Chardonnay wines in Burgundy. Sousse's wines are prized for their elegance at the country level, and for their extra weight and concentration at the Premier and Grand Cru levels. The estate's portfolio includes leading products from Chevalier-Montrachet, Le Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Champs Gain. The estate consists of 15 hectares (37 acres) of vineyards in the communes of Puligny-Montrachet, Como-le-Grand and Chassagne-Montrachet, with a small amount of grapes sourced from outside. The grapes are fermented in oak barrels and aged in barrels for around a year - up to 33% new oak for the First Growths and 40% for the Grand Cru. After ageing in barrels, the wine is tanked and stored on its lees for a further six months. Etiensse was established at the forefront of production in Puligny-Montrachet by Etiensse himself (1903-1975). His 12 hectares (30 acres) estate was taken over by his son-in-law Gérard Boudot, although in 1991 Boudot's cousin Jean-Marc Boillot took out his share of the vineyard and asked Boudot and his family to make additional acquisitions to bring the estate back to its current size.
