The 2015 Dauzac offers terrific immediacy and plenty of up-front appeal. Black cherry, tobacco, mocha, new oak, spice, leather and grilled herbs give the Dauzac lovely shades of darkness and overall complexity. Today, the oak is a bit pronounced, but the wine appears to have more than enough density to balance things out.

The 2015 Dauzac has a classy, sophisticated bouquet of blackberry, boysenberry, cedar and light fennel aromas; a floral element emerges with just a few swirls of the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine grip and good acidity. A little viscosity surfaces toward the finish, which leaves a dash of white pepper on the aftertaste. This is a more opulent Margaux, but one that is well-crafted. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

The 2015 Dauzac has a wonderful nose that is just pure unadulterated Margaux, very pure and floral with ebullient black cherry and cassis aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine thread of acidity, very harmonious and with superb depth. This has really come on impressively in barrel and could be one of the hidden gems of the vintage. Do not underestimate this lil' gem.

The 2015 Dauzac is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28% Merlot, the highest percentage of the former in recent years, and matured in 60% new oak barrels. It has a tightly wound but precise bouquet with scents of blackberry cassis and a hint of violet - very polished and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, pure black fruit laced with graphite and spice, gently building in the mouth, finishing with a precise and quite sustained, Pauillac-inspired grace. This is an excellent wine from the estate that will give 20-25 years of drinking pleasure.

Plenty of richness and depth to this excellently focused and pure expression of Margaux. Rich plum-fruit aromas and flavors are delivered amid very powerful, fresh tannins. A class act. Try from 2023.
