Tasting notes

The Château Dauzac 2014 has a surprisingly opulent and outgoing bouquet in the making with plump blackberry and blueberry scents, flanked by subtle violet and pastille-like aromas. The oak here is nicely integrated. The palate is fresh and vibrant. It feels linear at the moment, tightly packed and perhaps is missing that peacock's tail on the finish. Staying linear for the time being, this is a classic Dauzac style, fresh in the mouth, a wine that may surprise a few people after bottling. Including myself.

The 2014 Dauzac continues the upswing in quality at this Margaux estate (as I reported earlier this year when I conducted a vertical at the property). The bouquet is very well defined with wild strawberry, raspberry preserves and cedar notes that seem to blossom in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin, crisp acidity, superb structure, and a palpable sense of energy and frisson on the finish. What a superb Margaux—the insider's choice, perhaps?

The 2014 Dauzac is bold, rustic and also quite pleasing in its own way. Despite its burly personality, the 2014 shows better from bottle than it did from barrel. Drink this hearty Margaux over the next few years.

There’s a ripe blackberry note (from the merlot), but the wine remains cool and has serious dry tannins that need a bit of time to resolve. Some power and nice freshness on the finish.

Exotic and delicious with blackberry, blackcurrant and spice. Full body, super fine tannins and a balanced and beautiful wine. Can't wait to taste it in bottle.
