The 2009 Dauzac has a lively and fragrant bouquet with bright blackberry and bilberry fruit, quite intense and delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, dark cherries and bilberry fruit, well balanced with a precise finish. What a delightful Margaux. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting.

Deep ruby-red. Musky aromas of black raspberry and leather reminded me a bit of syrah. Deep, rich and energetic, in a rather extractive style, with sweet black fruit flavors joined by chewy, slightly drying (oak-driven) tannins on the back end. This fairly large-scaled Margaux should provide early pleasure.

Has Dauzac ever made a wine this good? Deep ruby/purple, with notes of graphite and black currants followed by some spicy oak and licorice in a creamy, plump succulent texture that almost reminds me of a Right Bank wine, this 2009 is full-throttle, dense and super-concentrated. It is an amazing Dauzac. Drink it over the next 25 years.

Tasted at the Margaux UGC. A blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot, this has a lively, ripe, joyful bouquet with fine definition and purity: blackberries, wild strawberry, a touch of cedar and sous-bois. Very fine definition. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very good balance...this is one of the Dauzac’s that has been lighting up the Margaux tastings in recent years. Good structure on the sous-bois and tobacco tinged finish that lingers enticingly. Excellent. Tasted March 2010.

The 2009 Dauzac reveals more new oak than most of its peers. The color is a dark ruby/purple, and the wine is broad and rich with sweet tannins, a corpulent personality, and plenty of spicy oak intermixed with black currant and black cherry fruit. It should drink well for 20-25 years. (Tasted once.)

Tasted at the Union de Grand Cru in London. The Dauzac 2009 has a "ravishing" nose with cassis, blackberry, fig and crush violets with fine delineation and lift. The palate is fresh and vibrant with good fruit intensity, firm tannins and a touch of savouriness towards the long, poised finish. Excellent. Tasted October 2011.

Served blind at the Southwold 2009 tasting. This has a fragrant bouquet with dark plum and mulberry on the nose that demonstrates good vigour and delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. It is soft in the mouth and need more backbone, whilst the earthy finish is a little smudged. I must confess ... I was expecting more from a wine that showed so much potential out of barrel, but perhaps is it enduring a difficult phase. Tasted January 2013.

Tasted at the vertical retrospective at the property. The 2009 Château Dauzac, a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot, has a powerful bouquet with blackcurrant pastille, blueberry, violet and fine mineralité. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite savoury in style, bestowed with more assertive tannin than the 2010, albeit without quite the same level of finesse. Nevertheless, this is an impressive Dauzac that is brimming with vitality and its more corpulent nature will win many fans - including myself. Give it 3-4 years in bottle to get the most from this Margaux. Tasted June 2015.

This is very dense and concentrated with chewy tannins. Lots of ripe fruit. Slightly woody tannins. Needs time to come together. A little tough now. Try in 2020.
