The 2017 Cornas la Sabarotte is aging in 100% new oak, where it's projected to stay approximately 18 months. Full-bodied and rich, it delivers concentrated plum and crushed stone flavors in a ripe, almost plush format that ends in a long velvety rush of licorice-spiced fruit.

The 2017 Cornas la Sabarotte is another big, plush, full-throttle Syrah. Aged largely in new oak, it leads off with hints of vanilla and baking spices, then segues into red and black currants. Full-bodied, supple and plush, it's what some people will call "international" in style, but there's no denying the overall quality. Ripe fruit, clean/new oak and meticulous care in the cellar have resulted in another great wine from this estate.

Glass-staining, bright-rimmed purple. Displays potent, mineral-accented dark berry preserve and incense aromas that are complemented by floral oil, vanilla and exotic spice nuances. Chewy, densely packed and focused on the palate, offering intense blackberry, blueberry, violet pastille and smoky bacon flavors that become livelier with air. Close on strong mineral and floral notes, with solid thrust, youthful, gripping tannins and superb persistence. (70% new oak)

About the Producer

The Courbis family have been making wine from their cellars in Chateaubourg since 1587. Brothers Laurent and Dominique have taken over from their father, Maurice, and there is a real wind of change and optimism blowing at this estate. The Courbis brothers produce some of the most compelling examples of St. Joseph and Cornas being made today. They have successfully combined their long family experience with a modern style, and their achievement has earned them international recognition. The estate owns 33 hectares divided as follows: 8 hectares in Cornas; 5 hectares of St Joseph Blanc; 19 hectares of St Joseph Rouge and 1 hectare of Syrah Vin de Pays de l’Ardeche.
