A blend of 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 54% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2019 Couhins came in at 14% alcohol and is being aged in French oak barrels, 33% new, for approximately 12 months. Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes wafting out of the glass with fragrant notions of lavender, wild thyme and raspberry leaves over a core of black cherries, mulberries and redcurrant jelly. Medium-bodied, the palate has a rugged, chewy frame and a lively backbone supporting the red and back fruit flavors, finishing with an herbal lift.

A blend of 93% Sauvignon Blanc and 7% Sauvignon Gris, the 2019 Blanc comes in at 14% alcohol and is being aged on the lees in French oak barrels, 15% new, for approximately 10 months. After giving the glass a few vigorous swirls, the nose comes out to play with ripe, opulent scents of golden delicious apples, freshly sliced peaches and pink grapefruit with touches of allspice, honeysuckle and paraffin wax. The medium-bodied palate is chock-full of expressive apple and stone fruit flavors with loads of spicy nuances and just enough freshness, finishing on a yeasty note.

A fine effort, the 2019 Couhins Blanc offers up aromas of crisp orchard fruit, white flowers, nectarine, citrus oil and fresh mint, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and precise palate with racy acids and a saline, attractively grippy finish. This modestly priced white Bordeaux would embarrass many grander names in a blind tasting.
