A rich, meaty, savoury nose that is all rather muffled with a scent of rusty nails developing with time. The palate is extremely ripe but lacking complexity and tension. It exhibits too much oak in proportion to the fruit (raspberry, damson and sloes) leading towards a ferrous finish. Forward for just a four year old wine with a touch of astringency on the finish. Drink now-2015. Tasted November 2006.

A strong effort in a year that did not favor Pomerol, Clinet’s 2002 boasts a dense purple color as well as medium to full body, and a sweet perfume of figs, black currants, blackberries, and hints of cedar, earth, and licorice. A relatively full-throttle Pomerol with moderately high tannin, it should be at its finest between 2007-2016.

Tasted blind at Bordeaux Index’s Clinet vertical. The Clinet 2002 is very ripe on the nose with macerated black cherries, cassis and a touch of blueberry, still wrapped up in some puppy fat. The palate is full-bodied with chewy tannins on the entry, good acidity though not quite as harmonious as I would have liked. Gritty dry tannins towards the finish with touches of tobacco and mint interlacing the peppery dark fruit. Fine and somehow, sedate. Tasted February 2011.

Showing better after bottling than in barrel, with Clinet`s typically toasty, rich, decadent nose. The palate has become more cohesive with good acidity, dense, rounded black fruits though there is a touch of under ripeness on the finish. I still think that there is too much oak masking the terroir on Clinet and it jars against the under ripe fruit. Tasted October 2004.

Tasted blind at Farr’s 2002 Bordeaux tasting. This is showing some high toned red-berried fruit on the nose: Cherry Bakewell, wild strawberry, creme de cassis...very youthful and tightly-coiled. The palate is chewy, full-bodied, lots of new oak, very youthful and adolescent. Rounded red-berried fruits on the finish. Long length. This has improved over the last couple of years. Tasted October 2009.

This soft, deep ruby/plum-colored effort exhibits notions of herbs, cassis, cherries, and flowers. While medium-bodied, harmonious, and well-made, it lacks the power and concentration of Clinet’s top vintages. Consume it over the next decade.
