Pale lemon colored, the 2016 Bastor-Lamontagne features beeswax and fungi notions on the nose with a core of peach preserves and candied orange peel plus a waft of mango. The palate gives plenty of unctuous exotic fruit and earthy sparks with a racy backbone and great length.

The 2016 Château Bastor-Lamontagne felt a little simplistic on the nose and lacked sufficient botrytis compared to other samples. The palate is balanced with a viscous opening, nicely judged acidity with a touch of spice, although I would be seeking a little more weight and botrytis towards the finish.

Pale lemon in color, the 2016 Bastor-Lamontagne leaps from the glass with candied lemon peel, apple tart, nutmeg and honeycomb scents plus a waft of fresh hay. The palate reveals impressive depth with loads of honey-nut and earthy accents with the citrus and apple layers, finishing perfumed.

Orchard fruit, lemon confit and white flowers are all nicely lifted in the 2016 Bastor-Lamontagne. Gracious and airy in style, as it usually is, the 2016 Bastor is one of the more delicate Sauternes readers will come across in 2016.
