Tasting notes

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts 1er Cru has a pastille-like bouquet of pure red cherries, strawberry and orange blossom, a little simple compared to its peers. The palate is somewhat sweet-and-sour on the entry, showing quite a bit of extraction. Spicy but not quite as clean as I would like on the finish. Difficult to read. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts 1er Cru has a clean, pure bouquet of black cherries, blueberry and a touch of vanilla. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fine weight in the mouth and a touch of sour cherry that enlivens the detailed finish. I have encountered better vintages of Bichot’s Malconsorts in the past.

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Malconsorts offers up aromas of earthy currant fruit and spicy new oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample wine that's both chewy and open-knit. It falls short of what one expects of a Malconsorts.

A fragrant and complex Vosne-Romanée with deep black-cherry and floral notes on the nose. Then comes the rich and very elegant palate, the tannins almost completely masked by the fruit, until you reach the very powerful yet polished finish. Try in 2023.
About the Producer
Domaine du Clos Frantin, a beautiful 18th century estate, is located in Nuits-Saint-Georges at the heart of the Côte de Nuits, home to the world's most rare and prestigious appellations where the Pinot Noir grape flourishes. The vines cover a surface area of 7.3 hectares , of which 3.9 are Premier and Grand Crus. The use of fertilizers and herbicides has been replaced by compost and ploughing. Respect for the soil, severe pruning and performing green harvest if needed allow us to obtain low volumes of high-quality grapes. Our vineyards are organic certified since 2012 and starting with the 2018 vintage, all the wines from the estate will bear the certified “organic wine” label. The winery is equipped with modern vinification equipment that nevertheless allows us to respect traditional methods. Working with gravity has replaced mechanical operations to better respect the quality and aromatic potential of the grapes.
