About the Producer

Yealands, located in the Marlborough wine region of New Zealand, is known as the world's finest producer of Sauvignon Blanc and is the first winery in the world to be awarded the CarboNZeroCERT certification. Founded in 2008, Yeziran has managed all aspects of the winery with sustainable standards. The winery was created in strict compliance with the draft Green Building Code and is the first winery in the world to be awarded the CarboNZeroCERT certification. The architectural design of the winery blends naturally with the surrounding landscape. Rainwater from the eaves of the winery falls into the drainage channels on the marshland on both sides of the winery and enters the recycling system or flows into the marshland. Functionally, the winery is one of the most creative and sustainable wineries in the world. Throughout the winery, lighting and air conditioning are controlled by motion sensors, and extensive insulation and heat recovery technology are configured to reduce heat loss and reuse energy. Detectors installed inside and outside the winery keep the winery at a constant temperature. The winery's goal is to be self-sufficient in energy, with excess energy sent to the national network of high voltage transmission lines. The spacious winemaking area is equipped with various types of containers and the laboratory is located in the attic, where the winemakers are able to control the temperature of these containers independently and precisely, not only for the sake of the winery's sustainability needs, but also to monitor the condition of each batch of wine with precision and accuracy. The successful development of Yeziran is linked to Peter's "daring" style, who enjoys working in the vineyards with the earthmovers and excavators, who believes that nothing is impossible, who imagines and acts on innovative ideas. He has developed seven of his own vineyards in Marlborough, as well as a number of vineyards planted in partnership with other companies. However, his vision for the business was by no means limited to viticulture. Early on, Peter had recognized the commercial potential of the land for greenshell mussel farming, and by 1971, he was granted New Zealand's first marine agri-farming license. In the mid-1980s, Peter established one of New Zealand's most successful deer farms, specialising in bolt animals and embryo transfers, and in 2003, the 2,000-hectare winery won the Countryside Conservation Award. Today, Peter and his wife and children are focused on building Yezeland Winery into an internationally renowned wine brand. Yezeland Estate Vineyard Seaview Vineyard is located in the Awatere Valley and is the largest privately owned single vineyard in New Zealand. The location of the vineyard is not ideal for grape cultivation, often prone to strong sea breezes, sparse rainfall, strong sunlight and cool evenings, which resulted in the vineyard's low-yielding vines producing small fleshy grapes with thick skins. To improve the growing environment, Peter developed 25 wetlands and planted 75,000 trees and flax. The wetlands open up water flow to provide irrigation for the soil and also create a safe habitat for many birds. A wide range of grape varieties are planted on the property, including Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir and Gewürztraminer, as well as rare Viognier, Tempranillo and Green Grapes in New Zealand.
